  • Virtue: Views the world as a thing of wonder.
  • Vice: Views various social and professional standards norms as "guidelines".
  • Rank: Research Fellow
  • Allies: Research Administrator Guy Monferrat; her Republic-assigned 'bodyguard' Domenico Rosa; her digital assistant Metis.
  • Enemies: Gadsen, for some reason; that Imperial harlot who stole the Core; anybody who foolishly bargains with the malignant intelligence that have festered within the ancient machinery; a not-inconsiderable number of the staff still marooned on Dauphine after the fiasco with Gadsen.
  • Goals: Banish the darkness of fear and superstition and leash the Cores to human will, rather than vice-versa.
  • Foreign Policy: Hmm? Yes. We should all be very worried about whoever built these Cores, and anyone who uses them.
  • Religion: Might exist. Probably. Core users???
  • Class: Kill anyone who wants to hoard wealth, feed the poor with their property and put the surplus into research. Problem solved. Utopia for all.
  • Economics: Eventually the prohibitions will come to a grinding halt and total automation will become the norm, as archeological evidence suggests it once was. The Republic will have to choose between this immortal, perfect economic system being the property of government, corporations, wealthy individuals or some anarchic morass.

Domenico Rosa
Some kind of shifty 5th Bureau guy who's probably there to kill Searle and set her on fire if there's a risk of her being captured by the Imperials.
M.E.T.I.S. (Metempsychosis Expert Telemeter Intelligence Synthesis)
Not an AI. Nope. Actually a clump of vat-cloned neurons printed onto biofilm wafers and hosting a research assistant program with a voice-activated interface that happens to have a churlish and robotic maid-like persona. Probably not actually an AI.
