===Background===
Carlyle Sarrth was born in Korth to a Karrnathi soldier, a tall, lean man, and a wizard, a redheaded woman with lithe features and piercing eyes. Shortly after his birth, his parents became somewhat reclusive, and the child became a source of rumours about his condition. Carlyle grew up somewhat isolated for the first few years of his life, due to the oddities of his birth; golden-bronze scaly patches along his back and tiny horns on his head and a small, scaly tail.

Maril grew up as the daughter of a jeweller in [average Brelan city]. Her elder brother, Regar Graccen, is poised to take over the family trade once her father retires. This iss fine with Maril, since she doesn't really have the patience to sit still all day and cut lenses or polish gemstones.
A curious, inquisitive sort, he took to his home's library and those of others quickly in life, especially as his parents limited his interactions with the outside world. As he grew older, though, he grew adept at hiding his features, and became more outgoing – despite his sheltered early years, he was rather personable, having a strange magnetism. He also had a flair for the dramatic and storytelling – he entertained many families with tales he concocted from books he read.

Seeing herself destined for a more energetic lifestyle, she became fascinated with the graceful, acrobatic fighting styles of the local monks. She joined the cloister as a novice, expecting to soon pull off similar superhuman feats by blending their teachings with her own budding psionic powers.
When he was twelve years old, he exhibited signs of sorcerous ability; agents of the Twelve confirmed it, and he was mentored to a taciturn sorcerer. He received occasional tutoring from the family maid, Phlanni, an elven woman with a terse demeanor and knowledge of the wizard's art. Excited by his new power, Carlyle pored over books on magical theory, arcane tales, and dragons.

She found herself less than enamoured with the strict discipline and the rigours of physical training  required to attain such abilities.
The last of those proved quite important to him. One day, shortly after his eighteenth he came home to find his mother and father sitting in the den. Strangely, they didn't return his greeting; the were silent, avoiding each other's gazes. His mother approached him, kissing him between the horns he concealed with his bangs, then walked out; he could tell she was crying. His father pressed something into his hand, patted him on the shoulder, and left as well, leaving only him and Phlanni.

After shirking her exercises one too many times in favour of exploring the cloister's archives, it was strongly suggested to her that she should consider a different career choice. Her father took her expulsion as a sign that he should take a firmer hand in the life of his now nineteen year old daughter, and he arranged a marriage with a minor scion of a Dragonmarked house.
The object turned out to be an old key of bronze. Phlanni took Carlyle up to the attic, revealing a door his parents had instructed her to show him. The key fit, and it opened to reveal a bookshelf, filled with dusty journals and rolled up maps belonging to his maternal grandfather, who had originally hired her.

Horrified by the idea, Maril searched for a way to talk him out of it. When it came to making her father back down, one person sprang to mind immediately: her grandfather. People tended to avoid arguing much with powerful wizards. Her own memories of him were a little unclear, since she had last seen him when she was eight. She mostly remembered him as a weird-smelling old man in gaudy robes who always had the most amazing toys when he appeared out of thin air unannounced – which didn't happen frequently. Clearly, she had to visit him and talk some sense into her father.
Carlyle has tapped learned much from the books; about the mysterious dragon that appeared to Aria Sarrth over the battlefield, summoned by strange magic; about how dragons hunted her child for decades, finally slaying it in the Principalities; about the Draconic Prophecy and the portents and secrets her grandson – Carlyle's grandfather - had gathered, before his final entry proclaimed he was quitting out of fear for his life and strange occurrences. His parents have never spoken of him before; Carlyle had never met him. Phlanni had gotten a job from him while destitute, while he was in the final years of his life, before he suddenly disappeared and his children kept her on.

Maril saw the fact that gramps lived over in remote Salona as an opportunity to get lost, rather than get hitched. She would only have to save up enough money to pay for the journey overseas. Since she was reasonably fit, she decided to seek employment as a mercenary and fight in the War. Its sudden end put a bit of a damper on that plan, though. Fortunately, it seemed as if there was good money in the adventuring business, too.
Engrossed by the prophecy and curious to find the identity of the mysterious 'Dragon on the Field' , as his grandfather referred it in his writing. He took the first opportunity to apply for journeyman status, and began his journey to follow the leads of his family notes. He insisted Phlanni join him, as the one to have known his grandfather at his last days (and as magical backup).

Maril has short brown hair that reaches about halfway down her neck. She is athletically built, but not overly so. She usually wears a psicrystal that matches the sapphire colour of her eyes on her forehead, attached to a headband.

Background

Carlyle Sarrth was born in Korth to a Karrnathi soldier, a tall, lean man, and a wizard, a redheaded woman with lithe features and piercing eyes. Shortly after his birth, his parents became somewhat reclusive, and the child became a source of rumours about his condition. Carlyle grew up somewhat isolated for the first few years of his life, due to the oddities of his birth; golden-bronze scaly patches along his back and tiny horns on his head and a small, scaly tail.

Carlyle has already born from fruit from his journeys – he's gained a sense for the Draconic Prophecy from the first site he checked, allowing him to tap into a heightened sense of awareness. The visions he experienced were vivid, and he's written them down to use as storytelling material.
