Background

Tyran

The Tyran Imperial Hegemony exists for but one purpose, to bring prosperity and glory to the great city of Tyrus. A true mega city that reaches into the sky, claws into the ground and bloats into it's surroundings. A swollen bustling sea of humanity whose masters are Vrykolakas, a Murian subspecies of Strigoi.

Founded before recorded history, the mythology of Tyran states that brothers Quintos and Marios founded the city upon an even older one, echoes of an ancient culture. It's commonly held the name of the planet, Tyran comes from these ruins.

The Tyran Imperial Hegemony

Tyran Forces

Tyran is an old world with only one major nation, the Tyran Hegemon. The Hegemon is centred on a single city, a metropolis ancient and sprawling, the city of Tyrus. A true mega city that reaches into the sky, claws into the ground and bloats into it's surroundings. A swollen bustling sea of humanity whose masters were and are a fusion of man and the other. The Vrykolakas.

The city is truly quite old and it's architecture compromises styles from a dozen periods but is dominated by gothic, neo-gothic, cyber-baroque and cyber-gothic styles. Grand arches buttress streets piled atop another, ancient warrens with narrow streets duck under maglev lines. Old gothic catherdrals decorated with images of ancient otherworldly beings lurk in the gloom cast by megatowers stretching into the sky. It is a living beast whose tendrils stretch, greedily gorging on resources and people to keep its bloated streets functioning.

Of the hundred million who call the city home, the majority live in the inner districts, insulated from the outlands by a massive ancient fortification. For those in the outlying districts, only a sea of robotic turrets protects them from the horrors that lurk in the polluted outlands.

The imperial holdings of the Hegemon serve only one purpose, to provide for the city. Tyran has no intrinsic imperial ambitions. It is a cosmopolitian nation welcoming of others and whilst the Vrykolakas consider themselves better than humans, they do no regard humanity as mere food.

Regardless, the city is a vast consuming entity and the resources to keep it afloat have required the Hegemon to command power far from home whether the ruled welcome it or not.

As ever that power is commanded solely by the Vrykolakas and since the abolish of the Republic, much that power courses through House Nmmikoi and the Emperor.

As Murians Tyran is also well known for it's use of industrialised biotechnology and genetic engineering. Elite Vrykolakas combat units wear what is known as ghoul armor, regenerating biological armor that interfaces with their supernaturally enchanced physiology, a product of the Aima Corporation Applied Biology Division. Ghoul armor is haunting living creature, heavily modified from it's mysterious origins and intermingled with other more mysterious genetic material, it is the ultimate servitor race.

History

The world has a long and complex history, but it can be plainly summarised into the following

Since rising to prominence as a powerful city state, the Murian state of Tyrus was concerned with improving the abilities inherent to vampires, thinking with technology what nature had provided by the intermingling of the Lyonesse. The Republic had never been afraid to extend it's reach and the city has for as long as the vampires remember depended on an influx of offworld resources to survive. Through trade, patronage and conquest, the Republic maintained an adequate supply of resources to maintain the glory of Tyrus.

This glory was interrupted by the dusk era, known on Tyran as the abandonment, when vast areas of the city were ceded to mutants and criminality, as the Vrykolakas slept through the darkest times within their Arcology. They emerged centuries later, continuing on with little regard for the terrors of those who lived through every moment of that dark isolated era.

There was little interruption to the game of power, the Vrykolakas continued their courtly games. Of the many Houses vying for prominence within the Senate and wider society, House Nmmikoi had the most meteoric rise through the strata's of society. A Combination of it's superior soldiers and ever expanding wealth and the keen political mind of it's patriarch.

Nmmikoi cemented his power several decades ago with the seizure of Zega-Three, returning triumphant with resources not seen in generations and the promise of industry and ether to fuel yet more conquests.

Fearing his growing power, a cabal of senators confronted Nmmikoi and attempted to murder him. Forewarned of the attempt his elite personal guard seized the senators and whisked them away to what many have since assumed was a gruesome death.

A mere decade has placed since and the former Republic continues to adjust to a new Imperial reality.

Citizenship

Vampire
While commonly referred to as vampires or strigoi, they refer to themselves as Vrykolakas.
Vampires are roughly human in appearance, with white marble skin, blood red eyes and sharp pointy ears. They are remarkably hairless, though possess a natural scalp full of usually black hair. They're fingers are sharply clawed with a talon like thumb. Though many apt a more human appearance in order to blend with populations. Central to the immortals is the veneration of the blood, it is not merely a dietary requirement, it is a compulsion and key to their mystical existence. A Immortal denied blood who cannot enter torpor regresses into an animal, losing much of it’s humanoid appearance and sustaining itself on any mortal food source. Blood teems with etheric energy not perceptible to humans, but keenly felt by Vrykolakas which gives them their immortality and toughness.
Vrykolakas are created by infecting a human with the vampirism via a bite and the human subsequently dying, the preferred method being hypovolemic shock for what appear to be largely cultural reasons.

The relationship between maker and made is akin to that of a parent and child.

Humans
Humans number some hundred million. Humans are generally free agents if they submit to the blood oath but this freedom is limited. They are all subject to conscription and summary uplift on the order of the Emperor's representatives. Humans form the backbone of the military, serving in all fields, pilots, tank operators and infantry. Over the centuries, they have been completely indoctrinated with the idea that vampires are beings to be revered and most yearn for uplift.
Humans are generally treated well, with many opportunities to rise through society, though most posts require being a supplicant to the blood oath. The most promising humans of each generation usually find themselves uplifted in order to preserve their talent for the ages.

Language

Tyrasans speak a language known as graikos.

The Government

The Empire and the Republic before it were made up of a myriad of titles, positions and appointments

Head of State: Basileus Nmmikoi
Head of Government: First Consul Phexis Constans
Government of the Nation: Neo-Feudalist Monarchy

Emperor

The Emperor or Basileus is the most powerful title and position within the Empire. They have the right to appoint a vast swath of titles and positions, some lasting for specific terms which require renewal. Imperial propaganda instills a quasi-divine aura to him, presenting the Emperor as a etheral figure who can shape the destiny of the nation and intercede on behalf of it's most loyal subjects. He is represented predominently by his daughter, Princess Ionia Nmmikoi who has the title of Emperor's Steward, commonly translated as High Imperator. In the ten years since his ascension, imperial propaganda has successfully instilled a powerful cult of personality, aided by the veneration of vampires prevalent in wider society.

The Dead Council

Emperor Nmmikos is advised by twelve senators who attempted to murder him. It consists of twelve vampires encased in cybernetic coffins that sustain and imprison them. Now these former enemies are but grovelling shells, though one must be careful to never completely trust their advice.

The Senate

The Senate consists of around 50 senators.

House of Nmmikoi

House of Kelaiologos

House of Iustinianikos

House of Constans

Society

Tyran is a quasi-feudal society, a successor to the Republic of Tyrapolis. Thenobility has organised themselves into houses as is typical in vampiric society. Humans are generally free agents who are entitled certain rights guaranteed once guranteed by the Republic, now guranteed by the Emperor himself.

Neo-Feudalism places a stratified order upon society, in which positions, titles and privileges are earned or lost. Of particular note is a human who pledges themselves to a vampire in order to be sired. Traditionally, one is sired to a high ranking member of a recognised 'House' and becomes a low ranking member of that household. This web of obligations is what ties members of a house together, ties houses together into blocs and ultimately the nation together as most House leaders owe the Emperor significant loyalty and patronage.

There is fierce competition for promising humans and soldiers, as each House vies to strengthen it's position. Any human who shows particular promise can expect to be headhunted and offered immortality in exchange for loyalty and service to a vampire house.

Much of society still revolves around the Arena. Many titles and positions of a military nature can only be attained if a house demonstrates sufficient strength via it's champions.

Do Tyrasans eat people?

The relationship between vampires and humans is symbiotic. In exchange for willingly providing blood, humans are entitled to certain rights and benefits. Access to housing, healthcare and higher education is dependent upon your blood oath, as are certain jobs. One off contributions are usually given a energy credit payment.

Ghoul Armor

Tyran is perhaps most famous for it's 'Ghoul' Symbiotic Armor System. Whilst Tyran does not believe in ubiquitous biotechnology, it has particular expertise in genetic manipulation. Ghoul armor is essentially a heavily modified vampire equipped to function as a armored suit and provides excellent synergy with a natural vampires abilities. Or so they claim, nobody has actually verified what Ghoul armor actually is.

Characters of Tyran

Basileus Nmmikoi

Basileus, or Emperor of the Imperium of Tyranorum
Basileus Nmmikoi is well over a thousand years old, an ancient vampire.

Despotēs Ionia Nmmikos

Despotēs and Strategos of the Imperial armies, Porphyrogennētos
Sired by the Emperor himself, Ionia is the rightful heir to the imperial throne and a experienced field general and soldier. She is strong, resolute and caring for those under
her command, qualities that naturally support her leadership of armies both large and small. As a human, she served in the mute extermination campaigns over a century ago. As she was embraced in the 'Purple Room' she is considered to be the heir to the throne should the Basileus die.

Vix Constans

Navarchos of the Imperial Astro Navos
Vix Constans turned down the chance to serve as a Consul and head of her household in order to serve in the Astro Navos. In a service usually populated mostly by humans, she nevertheless proved herself adaptable to the rigours of

space and as a vampire, rose through the ranks as her vast experience solidified into a enduring advantage.

Climate

Tyran is a generally temperate world slowly cooling, significant volcanic activity in the form of springs and gesyers warm many areas. It's heavily polluted as toxic sludge from the city is dumped without regard outside the walls. It's forests have been dying out for a century, replaced by toxic mushroom fields and bacterial sludge lakes.
