Equipment

Tjalve's Sandals

These sandals are a one dot relic and used to belong to Tjalve, Thor's servant who once raced against Thought. They are plain, light sandals but allow Torbjærn to access the purview of Air.

Mundane

  • Guns
Perhaps it's his military background but Torbjørn can't for the life of him see why so many scions use medieval cutlery to fight their enemies. To his mind guns are good, big guns are even better, especially now that he can actually fire a machinegun from his hip with a reasonable degree of accuracy.
  • Fake ID
One benefit of having connections in intelligence services is that fake ID papers are fairly easy to come by.
  • Body armor.
Once more, chainmail may have worked fine umpteen hundred years ago, but the art of not getting nasty holes in your body has improved dramatically since then.

Guide

Karl Olav Ødegård is the head of the secret E-17 Division of the Norwegian Intelligence Service. He is a veteran of the resistance struggle during the occupation and of the anti-communist efforts during the 1950s and 1960s. Rumour has it that he was aware of the supernatural ever since World War 2 and of the struggle between the gods and titans since the late 1960s. Another rumour has it that he was allowed to eat one of Idun's apples, thus extending his life considerably, but others think he's simply a very spry ninety year old.

His relationship with Torbjørn is a complicated one, though he is willing to lend Torbjørn aid and support he still tries to nudge him in the direction that'd be most beneficial to Norway. Moreover he is also obliged to hide the existence of E-17 and protect his sources, further limiting his helpfulness.

Followers

Prior to his Visitation Torbjørn was part of the top-secret E-17 special operations group "Åsgårdsreia". He can still call upon his old comrades in arms, who will come to his aid if at all possible. Technically they are still members of E-17, which helps with logistics and armaments, but this also requires higher than usual attention to secrecy.

Description

Tall at 6'4" and built like a brick shithouse, if that didn't get your attention his enormous red beard or booming voice probably would. In short there's nothing subtle about Torbjørn. In many ways he is his father's son, strong, honourable, thoroughly decent, and a protector of the weak and helpless. Of course he is also a bit of a drunk, a glutton, and has a fierce temper even if he quickly cools down as well.

Lessons Learned

History

Born to a single mother in Norway Torbjørn had a fairly normal upbringing in a thoroughly middle-class household. Albeit it one that was in many ways very New Age, his mother was Asatru and adamantly refused to let him participate in any events that had anything to do with Christianity. Of course Norway was not really all that Christian so this didn't bother him too much.

For most of his youth he was not too hot on school, preferring sports, boxing, driving cars, partying, and watching action movies to studying. Of course he was quite good at all of those things, effortlessly so. By the time he was conscripted into the army he had already decided that he wanted to join the Norwegian Army Rangers, given his superlative physical abilities he was accepted into the Pathfinder platoon.

After two tours in Afghanistan he was contacted by military intelligence and eventually recruited into E-17. Like most countries Norway needed people who could take unofficial action, be it rescuing hostages, collecting intelligence, or saving Norwegian citizens held by their parents abroad. For the most part these operations were fairly humdrum, but soon he began to notice that there were strange things going on. They'd be sent into the wilderness looking terrorist cells, finding odd tracks in the woods, and getting increasingly cryptic messages from high up.

IT all came to a head when they found one of the "terrorist" cells, it was in fact a group of trolls, or giants if you will, backed by several thralls and a titan scion. Initially the encounter went badly, as the unit was simply unprepared for what was thrown at them, and the titanspawn had several great mental powers. Torbjørn however found in him a strength that surprised even him, using an LMG to show the titanspawn why it is and stays a secret war.

Tired, exhausted, and surrounded by the weirdest corpses he'd ever seen, he was still surprised when Thor the god of thunder appeared to him. That as you say was his first entrance into a new and greater world...

Since then he was given far more leeway in choosing when to go and where, to the point that he was able to act much like a cinematic secret agent and basically pick his own assignments.
