I am William de Brightstar, third son of Baron Humphries de Brightstar. My family was ennobled some five generations ago in thanks for a service performed by my ancestor to empire. While the service wasn’t of great importance to the history of our eternal empire but did much for my family and since then we have dutifully served the throne. Of the current generation both of my brothers serve in the Imperial Cavalry and my younger sister is a third year at the Academy… As for myself, well, while my siblings took to the Line Officer track, I found a real talent for the planning and administrative maneuvering that are the hallmarks of a true Staff Officer. While my brothers look down on me for becoming a ‘mere paper-pusher’ I have found that the true power within the Imperial Navy lies with those controlling the flow of resources and information more than any dash or élan. While some considered me to be 'nosy' and 'officious' few disagreed with my ability to find and make the best use of resources and was considered on track for a position within the Grand Imperial General Staff on Reunion itself. I’ve served as a Staff Officer for six years with a promising, if methodical, climb before running afoul of the corrupt Admiral Mugombe who promptly assigned me to Tahminah Lasalle's unit.

And that is when everything changed…

Events:
Upbringing: My childhood was a happy one. My father, the head of the moderately successful Zervina family was widowed shortly after I was born, but he remarried happily and I got along well with my stepmother and step-siblings. I was however expected to help track of the troublemakers along with the servants, and in my later years in the palace I dished out appropriate reprimands as well, and I suppose that attitude got my enrolled in the naval academy.

Coming of Age: One of my first major assignments after graduating from the academy was as a temporarily attached staff officer to an inspection fleet sent to the planet Plexira, a planet near the restive fringe of Empire space ruled by the Levenholtz family, who took us in as guests as was and still is according to protocol.

Ambush Escape: The Levenholtzes… they gathered the captains and several of their staffs into a meeting hall, and then slaughtered us like dogs! I was only saved by being in the rear of the group, and escaped by the skin of my teeth and the shooting of a guard before fighting my way out of this killing ground. Above in orbit the same surprise was waiting for our ships, and we lost more than a few vessels to their treachery before I could make it back to the fleet to regroup.

Retribution: This was my first time in command outside of exercise, but the position spoke to me, and I rose to the occasion. Finding favorable terrain in-system, I proceeded to fight a days-long action of fire and maneuver with the remaining flotilla, getting the better of them even while significantly outnumbered until Imperial reinforcements arrived to fully crush them. With their help we were at their palaces in a fortnight, and had tracked down most of the Plexiran traitors shortly after that.

“Awakening”: After we subdued them I had some time alone with the traitors and in my angered and stressed state something…awoke within me and I did…things to them. My newly-arrived commanders reprimanded me for it, apparently they wanted the conspirator’s faces recognizable for their executions, although it wasn’t anything some bags wouldn’t fix. Frankly, as time goes by, I regret it less and less, and given I was promoted to command the remaining squadron immediately thereafter my bosses did not disagree.

On account of the fact that she has been on continuous deployment for 22 months, 17 days, and 11 hours at the time of this message, her efficient work during this period of time both in defending the imperial borders as well suppressing the outer colonies and in light of recent events involving the Empress, this request has been granted.
