Cara's Erased Affair, from a primordial 2007 Character Sheet.
Born in New Norway, Alberta, Canada without any birth defect or any sign of the changes that were to come from within, none might have guessed the truth. Reinhardt Stang might have, but knowledge of that is lacking. Cara grew up out of town for a few years as per the Stang tradition- the Stang's came from Volga Germany after the Communists forced them out, with many of the other German farmers in the region. Coming to Canada they eventually moved west where Cara was born and continued to farm up to the present day when Walter Stang became a respectable and successful businessman.
Everything was normal. She had friends. An brother. Two loving parents and a quirky uncle that came by every so often filled out an immediate family, amoung a large extended family group. Then a few years ago, enemies hunting for the supposedly harmless old, but eccentric, Uncle Reinhardt appeared when the Stang’s were home and… fell upon them. Often he was gone for long periods, even years, before visiting or calling briefly. When he did appear it usually was for the good, even if strange events followed him and the last time was no exception.
Reinhardt did appear, for a good result, just in time to slaughter the attackers but not before everyone Cara loved perished. Saved by only the thinnest of margins created by a flat tire, preventing her from walking in before Reinhardt arrived, she entered after the deed and while wounded saw the vulgar magic Reinhardt called down upon things that were doing things that science decreed impossible and awakened.
A gas line explosion was blamed for the destruction of the house, leaving only charred remains of the family behind. Since Cara was obviously in the house when it occurred, since she was not at any friends house and her car was present, she was obviously dead as well. And everyone knows that dead people have no reflection. (No Reflection) Paradox might have affected her as Reinhardt healed her with Ars Animae as well.
With everyone dead naturally when Reinhardt took her away, out of sight, and began to train the obviously awakened Cara. She took her first walk into the world of a Mage with only a stunned nod of acceptance and a grim, almost unfeeling, desire for the destruction of the ‘monsters that plague the world’.
Cara is quite dedicated. Unfortunately the saying ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ might be applied to the family that was lost. The father was not a terribly kind man, the mother not terrible loving parent, but the loss and shock of a world, stable and not unkind world, has clouded some memories and perceptions. Her cause is the killing of supernatural creatures, or all her ‘enemies’ and the enemies of Hermes happen to be her enemies and Reinhardts.
A more different look might suggest that her need for revenge, of action at her prior helplessness, has thrown her into a never ending series of engagements and near-death experiences. In any case, seeing the remains of a world shattered in a red-splattered living room have dulled any sense of physical pain (Insensible to Pain). Emotional suffering has overwritten the physical, and a growing numb emptiness with each thing killed has started to erase the tears. Her motives of killing are in a way a search for meaning in a life that had its old meaning ripped away.
Reinhardt's instruction was competent and fairly well ranging; even afterwards the end of the restrictive one-on-one training he remains around to help, and receive help from Cara who was a dutiful apprentice. Now Cara works as an assistant to Magistrati Josephine Mordant. (Mentor)
In appearance Cara had no real trouble in getting dates- had she desired them. Now she hardly has the chance to ever pursue them if they were offered. She does, however, look like in some ways a leader and somebody more important then she deems herself to be. This has caused quite a bit of trouble in the past. (Mistaken Identity)
