Shereyed

Was this the end of all things? We all asked that question when we watched our civilization disintegrate, under the threat of pan-solar devastation. However, we were not the first to ask such a question. Many watching the fall of Rome and descent of barbarism in the first millennium, the ages of plagues and industrial slaughter of the second millennium, or even the Great Collapse of the third millenium asked this question, but we had thought such history was behind us. Sadly, the lesson of history is that no golden age lasts forever.

However, the Scriptures teach us not to abandon hope. The Lord has always preserved a Remnant, who will rebuild after the fall of civilization. The Faithful have always formed the core of the Remnant, keeping the flame of civilization burning until it could burst forth anew. I decided that it would be foolish to wait for LOGOS to resolve its disagreement. With the permission of His Holiness, I began to prepare the Remnant.

We worked hand in hand with the developers of the Earth Cradles, while recruiting our own group. We did not demand allegiance to the Faith, only wisdom, skill, and upright character. My dear friend Pir Syed Ali came to us early on, and I have always valued his wise counsel. As we rapidly began construction amidst the growing chaos, we offered shelter to orphans and children from nations at war. Not only was this noble, it deterred all but the most savage attackers. Those we met with the Orders, and they met the fate of Amalek.

As we had planned wisely, we also had time to gather flora and fauna, or their DNA, for assistance in rebuilding our civilization and world. We had welcomed the transhuman engineers from Zallister Industries and Beryl Colony into our growing nation, for we would need all of the technology imaginable to survive the Nemesis. We also constructed Project Caliburn, our own independent cometary defense grid. We thought we were ready.

We were wrong. It seemed as if most humanity was in competition with the comets to kill the most humans. We had to fight off desperate attacks and slam the door shut to refugees. It was not a glorious day for humanity or Shereyed. For many years, madness reigned outside of our walls, and we waited and prepared.

Now, we look out at the ruins of Earth and the Solar System. Small bands of survivors cling to life in Poli like ours, while barbarians ransack the gates. Now, it falls on us to rekindle civilization, as the Church did in the past. We will not accept this as our future. Humanity will rise again, with the Lord's help, and it is our duty as the Remnant to see it through - Javier Cardinal Santiago, O.H.T.
