Resolute Orchid in Sparrow's Shadow was just a girl learning from her beloved sifu when they killed him. She doesn't know who or what or how - her memory of the event is a fractured blur of impossibilities, and the assailant's identity a blank in her mind. But she clearly remembers the aftermath - picking herself off the ground, finding his broken body, and running to the secret hiding place where he kept a book she had glimpsed but been forbidden to ever look at.
The book was incomprehensible, full of exercises that made no sense that demanded senses she did not possess. But she persevered, through aching muscles and sleepless nights until an enlightenment settled upon her, and she knew she had been given the chance to avenge her master. She would not waste it.
