Relics of the Crown

It is 837 AT and the Arch-Duke is dead. His death was not unexpected for he had long been plagued by a strange malady that sapped his strength and weakened his mind. Rule of the Arch Duchy of Vire now falls to the Arch Duchess Claire Darche, or at least it will when she completes the coronation ceremony. This ceremony has great spiritual and mystical significance for the realm and requires the use of the four great relics of the crown: the Crown of Wisdom, the Sword of Honor, the Mirror of Faith, and the Scepter of Justice. These ancient relics were created long by a powerful arch mage and a saint at the bequest of the first Arch Duke, who wished to test all those who might rule after him.

But all is not peaceful within or without the arch-duchy's borders, the arch duchess is young and untested, and the duke's spymaster has heard whispers of an attempt or attempts on the Great Relics. So a plan was quickly wrought where replicas would be sent with the normal grand parade that traditionally carried the relics from the crown city of Abingdon to the holy city of Havan, while the true relics would be sent with a pair of discreetly recruited adventuring companies.

You are one of those two companies, recruited from men and women who have proved their trustworthiness in the past. Great rewards have been promised each of you if the true relics make it to the holy city..... but there are many enemies out there and you will not know who you can trust.

System/Character Generation

This is a very rules light game and the intention is for the players to be able to go a little crazy. Its a fairly standard #lords system, with a difficultly of 6 for dice rolls.

You have eighteen points to spend on these five categories. Please keep in mind that I'm trying to avoid having anything be a “dump stat.”

  • Strength:
  • Will:
  • Charisma:
  • Wits/Intelligence:
  • Perception:

You also pick one “class” that defines your abilities and what sort of crazy stuff you can pull off. Most of your abilities or what you do in the game should relate back to this class' theme in some way. Classes can be pretty much anything you can think of: street urchin, thief, assassin, knight, paladin, necromancer, warlock, elementalist, cleric, psionic, summoner, etc. Classes can also be used to represent a powerful non-human race or species like dragon, vampire, angel, etc. However, please try to be specific rather then generic. Instead of just listing mage – list something like necromancer or summoner that tells us what kind of magic they use. For clerics you could list what kind of deity they follow, etc.
