Arete Academy version.

Darkly Verbena Mushihime-sama.

http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=969161

A dark, dour and generally antisocial girl who mostly keeps to herself and her strange obsession with bugs. She has become possibly slightly less dark and at at least recreationally not-antisocial as she settles into school. Her hair and eyes are an off-black dark brown, her skin tone is medium. She normally wears thigh highs, skirt and hoodie jacket these days but sometimes gets more provocative if she's out messing with people.

Naomi was born in the UK but spent many years in Okinawa after losing both parents. There, she underwent training under her (great?) grandmother, a powerful eastern Verbena master. Hoshifuri Yaesei vanished into the umbra years ago and hasn't been seen since, but a few years is not necessarily a long time for the enlightened and of all places, a Traditions academy is going to be a place where heritage counts for something among those in the know.

While basically cold or hostile by default, she is less abrasive to some people than others. She prowls the campus and nearby areas to do wild and crazy College things. Other times, she stays out of everyone's way and the only reminder of her existence is the perpetual low-level infestation of her dorm attic. Her natural way of magic is through the use of 'bugs' which, ignoring artificial Technocratic divisions, readily includes worms, leeches and small crabs.

Lore (Naomi)

1: She is 1/4 Japanese, has no money and lives in the attic of the Disparates dorm. A-rank beauty but presumed A-rank danger to try to pick up.
2: Her (great?) grandmother is a powerful Verbena master who vanished into the umbra a few years ago.
3: Actually, that's 1/4 Ryukyuan and her Verbena training is an East Asian branch rather than local so she's technically a shrine maiden or something.
4: The H in her name stands for Hoshifuri. Her Japanese name is Hoshifuri Nao.
5: The Hoshifuri clan of Japan and Ryukyu were said to have dominion over insects. The clan once controlled Hoshifurishima, an island in the Ryukyu archipelago inhabited by giant insects. The domain was pushed into the umbra during the Technocratic encroachment on East Asia during the 19th century. The master recently vanished during one of her many umbral journeys in search of the lost realm and Naomi was returned to the UK by the embassy.

Looks like a gigantic conflation of spiritually significant bugs. Gives off the sense of being Queen and Mother.

The Chrysalis has been developing and regaining a bit of sentience though never speaking in words. Regardless of what it eventually becomes, the association of Chrysalis as a spirit is one of industriousness, craftsmanship and sweatful labour.

Bugs out the throat. Bugs everywhere. Ick!

Now that she's at St. Aleister College, her great grandmother's name actually means something.

The bug princess likes her bugs.
Short Fuse [-6]
The bug princess is quick to anger! Must roll willpower to avoid lashing out when ticked off by something.

The Chrysalis requires day to day care rather like a tropical flower as well as occasional weird dream requests that have been getting increasingly challenging.

Martial Arts

Dragon Tail Sweep - Difficulty 8/OppStr/B. Works like a Throw but you don't need to grab first. Opponent is thrown a yard per success scored (you can kick them at someone else). Damage based on their own Strength. If taking more than 3 damage, roll Stamina difficulty 8 or be stunned for a turn.
Hard Strike - Difficulty 5/Str+1/B.
Joint Lock - Difficulty 5. Allows immediately rolling Dex+MA to inflict damage after grapple. Each success rolled inflicts one health level’s worth of lethal injury.
Snake Step - Difficulty 6. Acts as as a Dodge+3. Makes sense with m20's extra actions. Probably takes less room and leaves you closer than an Acrobatics dodge.
Spinning Kick - Difficulty 6/Str+3/B.
Throw - Difficulty 7/Str+momentum/B. Opponent is thrown a yard per success scored (you can throw them at someone else). Damage bassed on thrower's Strength +1 for every 10 feet they'd been traveling at the time (max 10d). If thrown at someone else (+2 dif), the flying enemy inflicts Stamina/B and inflicts momentum damage on both. If taking more than 3 damage, roll Stamina difficulty 8 or be stunned for a turn.
