Background

Planetary and System Information

The Special Administrative Region of Luoyang encompasses the entire star system of Luoyang. The colony itself is officially known as "Luoyang II", though its more colloquially known by the name of the star it orbits. Other notable landmarks include asteroid mining operations in the belt between Luoyang IV and Luoyang V, as well as the refueling and repair station on Luoyang II-A.

Luoyang II boasts a very small axial tilt, a gravity of 0.95g, a rotational period of 25 hours and a mild climate, making it one of the most pleasant planets the People's Republic has ever colonized. Its native vegetation is edible by humans, but has almost no nutritional value, resulting in a farming industry catering to calorie-less oriented luxury foods.

Early History

The Chinese planet of Luoyang began its existence as a resource base for second stage Chinese expansion. Countless Treasure Ships passed through the system, taking on fuel and supplies for their rimward journey, or getting emergency repairs on their trip home. Luoyang only truly began its existence as a colony in the early 2100s after the deeply divisive 53rd National People's Congress in which the Progressive Party, which was fighting for Transhuman Rights, was perceived as a threat to national stability. The Congress eventually voted to exile the most vocal dissidents, their families, and any augmented humans who were even remotely connected to the Party off to the newly created Luoyang Autonomous region, which was, at the time, one of the furthest claimed planets of the People's Republic.

The colony thrived, then prospered as its farming industry boomed and reports of intact posthuman artifacts started rolling in, easily weathering the Financial Crisis of 2125, indeed profiting from the fact due to the amount of currency reserves the colony was building up. When the Breakdown hit the known universe, Luoyang utilized the knowledge reverse engineered from the artifacts to begin the construction of a catapult. When the Red Banner Reclamation Fleet jumped into the system, the catapult had almost been completed, and had been preparing for a test launch towards the closest Coreward colony. Admiral Zheng, expecting a rebel colony, instead found an invitation to negotiations. He and his team of diplomats hammered out a deal in record time, granting Luoyang Special Administrative Region status with the full authority of the National People's Congress in exchange for full usage rights for the catapult. Once tested, a courier boat was fired Coreward while the catapult was hastily retargeted Rimward, and Admiral Zheng and his fleet went quickly on its way.
