The mist rises up around Shu, shadows lengthening. It grows darker, and then he steps through. . .

And then ducks as something whines overhead! He looks up with a start, bright neon lights blinding him, huge skyscrapers rising over him, a damp, oily fog in the air, but the byproduct of machines, not nature. Massive 10 story tall viewscreens on the nearby buildings blare down garish adverts, as flying cars (one of which just missed him) whiz past overhead.

"And now, we interrupt our scheduled programming for a message from your glorious tyrant. All Hail the Reign of the Onyx Overfiend. Another endless Century of Prosperity and Power! All. Hail." The screen shifts, and Shu realizes that he's DEFINITELY not in Kansas anymore. . .

Meanwhile, when Shu doesn't return, Cara heads out from Marmo for a look. She finds him on the edge of her awareness, in another place, and another time, casting her mind into his dreams to aid him as he battles alone, the lone ninja against a horde of onyx golem minions commanded by the burning Onyx Overfiend. Whose dominion covers the ENTIRE SHATTERED WASTELAND of this future dystopia. Ruling from the very depths of the earth, to the stars themselves with a burning hand.

Finally, with the aid of the Gekigagner Corps, returning from their mission to the Galactic Core, after riding the metal moon of Proto-Autochthon Shu breaks into the Overfiends central tower on the Martian stronghold. There he encounters an old friend working as the Artificer, source of much of the technological might of the Overfiend and Shu's words and spirit free him from the Overfiend's control. Seeing the true nature of the world gave him the drive to turn his constructs against the Overfiend's Onyx legions, allowing Shu to enter her inner sanctum.

In a climactic battle with the Overfiend, Cara is able to project herself from the distant past, reminding the Onyx Overlord of who they once were. Allowing Shu the opening he needs to shatter the Sepulcher of Porthos, an artifact formed from the defeated soul of that great archmage, and bring the Overfiend's power crashing down. With the cheers of a liberated populace ringing in his ears, he steps through the temporal gate one last time, leaving this world in the hands of the Gekiganger Corps to lead it forward in justice and a love of visual culture. All he knows is that from having spent a subjective lifetime in this warped future, technology no longer boggles him like it once did.

The Devouring One was slain by order of the Council, so rumor says, leading to the Onyx Overfiend's rise in wrath and vengeance against the treachery of those who had once been worshiped as Masters.
