When the treaty of Seta was signed a group of star systems sharing a common cultural and religious background banded together under the leadership of the colonial government of the world of New Babylon in order to gain fair representation and a chance for independent rule. When these worlds were granted their independence they remained together under a democratic leadership which would remain in place until the rise of the House of Darzi in the year 857 PD:

The Coup and the rise of Darzi 857 PD: In the year 855 the charismatic and incredibly wealthy quanzium 40 manufacturing baron Burus Darzi began to assemble a political party around himself made up largely of other quanzium 40 manufacturing leaders and their families and supporters. Within two short years the House of Darzi had a private military force larger and better trained than that of the Republic of New Babylon, combined with the personal forces of his other followers the state forces were a pale shadow in comparison. When Darzi assembled this force in orbit of New Babylon and deployed an army of half a million men directly into the capital city there was little the state forces could do to intervene. In order to spare the lives of himself and his family President Nagai stepped down and ordered all Republican forces to stand down as well.
In a surprisingly bloodless coup Darzi secured the entire Republic for himself and his followers quickly declaring the formation of the Kingdom of New Babylon with himself as the ruler and those loyal to him as various nobles and rulers.

Present Day: The incredible wealth of the Kingdom of New Babylon comes from its vast exports of quanzium 40 to nearby regional powers and even the Achamaenid Empire and the True Solar Front (though the TSF refuses to acknowledge any such trade dealings with the inferior races of the Kingdom). Thanks to this wealth the Kingdom has been able to purchase the very best terraforming equipment allowing their Kingdom to grow in the dozen star systems they already occupy without having to expand into new territory and potentially confront other powers. Perhaps the main reason the Kingdom thrives so well without drawing the military attentions of any of the Major powers is because of their ties to the Achmaenid who have agreed to act as a protector state for the Kingdom in exchange for low prices on Quanzium 40 imports...”low prices” of course being relative.

Military: The Kingdom’s armed forces consist of the “King’s Guard” which is the core fleet and army of the Kingdom while the other houses each maintain their own private fleets and armies made up of a mix of conventional soldiers and mercenaries.

King’s Guard Fleet: The KGF is the space force that answers directly to the house of Darzi, made up of units formerly of the Republican Fleet and the House Darzi private fleet the units of the KGF are the best trained and equipped “state” forces within the kingdom. Operating a fleet of ten battleships and numerous cruisers and frigates the KGF is more than powerful enough to repel most pirates and local system governments that might eye the Kingdom’s wealth with jealousy.

Fedayeen Darzi: The Fedayeen Darzi is the personal army of the King and house Darzi, like the KGF the Fedayeen is an all-male force made up of soldiers that are absolutely loyal to the house of Darzi over the kingdom itself. The Fedayeen Darzi is made up entirely of heavy infantry and mobile infantry units making it one of the most potent armies in the sector.
