Founding 845 PD:
Like so many other nations the Fusao Republic was only officially recognized with the signing of the treaty of Seta though like so many other nations the truth was that the Republic had existed for decades. Made up of twenty worlds spread cross eight star systems the Fusao Republic had been seeded almost entirely by colonists from the world of New Kyoto meaning that virtually the entire Fusao population is ethnic Japanese. The trend towards ethnic Japanese has been heavily encouraged by the government through the active and vigorous use of vita-womb technology as well as encouraging citizens to have large families for the good of the society. Another step employed to ensure the “purity” of the Fusao people is that Gaijin living within the Republic are encouraged to segregate themselves unless participating in business or diplomatic activities.

Daehan War 850-852 PD: In the year 850 PD the Daehan Empire launched a swift invasion of New Kyoto smashing through the Fusao fleet and defenses with distressing ease. With their capital in enemy hands the rest of the Republic continued to fight on producing what ships and units they could to fight the Daehan invaders. It was only with the intervention of the Altair Federation however that the war came to an end and the Fusao Republic maintained autonomy of any fashion. With the intervention of the Federation politically the Daehan Empire reluctantly withdrew their forces from New Kyoto though not before plundering it of a great deal of wealth.

Reconstruction 852-861 PD: The efforts to rebuild economically and militarily after the brief but bloody Daehan war were monumental. Much of the Fusao treasury was drained either by the invasion or the ensuing reconstruction efforts and as such they were forced to seek loans from the Swabian League, the Duchy of Tileas and even the Altair Federation. These loans came at a cost though as the Altair Federation secured basing rights to several Fusao worlds ensuring that they would have assets in place to monitor the region and ensure stability. The Swabian League forced the Republic to sign a non-compete clause agreeing that for the next fifty years all military vessels purchased by the Republic would have to come from Swabian yards. Tileas on the other hand simply charged exorbitant interest on their loans bringing in even more wealth.

Present Day: After years of rebuilding much of the Fusao financial debts have been paid off though they are still bound by their agreements with Swabia and the Altair Federation.

Culture: To say Fusao culture is xenophobic would perhaps be a stretch however they are extremely insular and distrustful of foreign cultures and peoples often seeing them as inferior and uncivilized. As a society they are obsessed with the idea of success, driving them to seek the highest standard of education as well as being extremely career oriented. In fact the people of Fusao are often so focused on career or schooling that the women do not wish to be “burdened” with children and instead provide genetic material to a vita-womb so that they are not taken out of the work force for months.

Military: After the devastation wrought by the Daehan invasion the Fusao Republic decided they needed a strong defense force. Honoring their agreements with the Swabians every warship in the Republic Fleet was built by Swabia to Swabian specifications.

Republic Fleet: The Republic Fleet is responsible for ensuring that no more outsiders strike at the worlds of the Republic from space. Given the economic troubles of the Republic they only maintain six battleships and fifteen pocket battleships as their capital ship fleet. They Fusao fleet is also rather light on cruisers relying on larger numbers of cheaper frigates to compensate for this weakness.

Republic Army: The Army of the Republic was created after the invasion of New Kyoto when it was realized that starships were not the “be all end all” of modern warfare if an opponent wished to seize a world for its wealth and resources. The modern Fusao army consists of a highly mobile professional response force of over two million men and women with each planet maintaining its own militia forces in case of invasion.
