Democratic Solar Confederation
Government: Parliamentary Democracy
Current Ruler: President Anwar Onasi
History:

Founding: In the year 830 PD millions of citizens led by outspoken members of the Debtless class founded the “Party for Democratic Reform” which sought to peacefully change the SCG government from within. After four years of being stonewalled in the council and facing illegal but unchecked reprisals the PDR slowly began the process of change from a peaceful political party to a more militant organization which began to amass resources and weapons for an armed insurgency.

The League of Democratic Worlds: In the year 834 PD the Valhalla incident changed a great many things within the SCG not least of which the loss of absolute control over hyperspace travel leading to worlds feeling like they finally had a chance to defy the authority. It was during this time that a new leader would rise among the PDR, unifying its leadership and forging its various cells into a cohesive force for change and resistance. This woman was Abha Dhawan a member of the highest tier of Noblesse class citizens with a personal wealth measured in the trillions of marks, a whole star system answering to her and enough political clout and contacts to sway dozens more worlds to her cause. It was this most unlikely of leaders that would be the most vocal and aggressive leader of the movement pulling world after world into the newly christened League of Democratic Worlds. With the foundation of the League Dhawan knew that the political die had been cast and that the SCG council would respond with military force and economic sanctions in an effort to crush the newly founded nation. It was in response to this that Dhawan spent tens of billions of her own marks and the vast material resources of her own family and company to produce the weapons and ships that would make up the very first units of the League Defense Force. Using her as an example all the worlds of the League began stepping up, contributing material and manpower to the newly forming LDF.

The Foundation War:
Opening Moves 835: As predicted the SCG’s initial response to the rebellious League was an attempt to crush them economically by shutting down the hyperspace gates in League space. Although this led to economic suffering within the League it was not an unexpected move. Thanks to contingencies made by Dhawan and the League leadership the first jump ships produced in bulk by the shipyards of the League were actually massive freighters which were able to keep the trade lanes alive. Realizing that the SCG had effectively “forgotten” about them the League also used this time to produce a fleet of warships capable of hyperspace jumps without gate travel. By the end of the year the League Defense Fleet consisted of five battleships, forty cruisers and nearly seventy frigates capable of making independent hyperspace jumps. More ships were already under construction when the first shots of the war would be fired.

First Shots 836: After a year of isolation the SCG reopened the hyperspace gates into several League star systems expecting to find economically ravished worlds begging to be allowed back into the fold. In an effort to show overwhelming force and cow the rebels once and for all the SCG deployed fully a third of the Spacy and Marine Corps in a single wave through the jump gates. What they had not expected was the kind of desperation they would actually encounter.
Tau Duana: The governor of the Tau Duana star system, realizing the size of the SCG force that had entered her system was larger than the entire League Defense Force Fleet made a valiant call that would risk her people for the greater good of the League. As the SCG force moved to secure the gate in common practice with SCG military doctrine governess Ludmilla Blanc led a “peace delegation” out to meet the fleet leadership and surrender her system. Seeing the chance to demoralize the League worlds the SCG admiralty chose to allow the governess to approach the fleet so that her surrender could be broadcast throughout the SCG. Upon approaching the fleet –and the hyperspace gate- however Governess Blanc broadcast a single transmission “I’m Sorry, I do what must be done” she then triggered her ship’s jump drives within the hyperspace gate. The resulting catastrophic overload destroyed the gate, the vast majority of the SCG fleet and a nearby mining outpost.
Battle of Rishi: Even while governess Blanc sacrificed herself to destroy a vast force of SCG warships and marines a second force was moving into the Rishi star system. Having rapidly secured the gate and destroying the handful of local defense cutters the SCG 5th fleet began moving in system to put down the still defiant Rishi government. After several hours of unopposed travel in system and not a single credible threat on scopes the SCG fleet was suddenly ambushed by the entire LDFF jump fleet. Caught off guard the superior numbers of the 5th fleet were quickly rendered useless in the ensuing chaos. The battle lasted less than an hour and saw the bulk of the 5th fleet destroyed before its surviving commanders surrendered.
The Oglala Incident: Having learned of the fates of the other two strike forces the SCG fleet in the Oglala system under the command of Admiral Preston Alexander was ordered to destroy every orbital habitat in the system which would result in the deaths of hundreds of millions. Appearing to obey his orders Admiral Alexander sent repeated encoded communiques to numerous ships within the fleet for hours as they made their way in system to carry out their terrible orders. At the last minute however Admiral Alexander broadcast a message that would change the nature of the war “This is Admiral Preston Alexander, commander of the SCG 3rd fleet. I have been ordered to destroy the orbital habitats of the Oglala system in an effort to punish those who would rebel against the Council. I will not have the blood of millions on my hands. All loyal sons and daughters of the fleet…you know what to do.” With that message the 7th fleet fell into chaos as “loyalist” and “rebel” crewmen fought for control over ships. Admiral Alexander quickly secured his own flagship, the battleship Ad Astra and used its power to aid rebel forces in securing ship after ship. Although much of the 7th fleet managed to disengage and flee back towards the jump gate almost a quarter of those that had remained loyal to the SCG had been destroyed with all the remaining ships in the Oglala system loyal to Admiral Alexander. This act led to mutinies throughout the Spacy and Marine Corps sewing chaos and devastation throughout the SCG and changing what would have potentially been a brutal but victorious war into a slog the SCG could not decisively end.

The birth of Terror 840: By the year 840 PD it was all but clear that the SCG was losing control over the galaxy. In fact outside of the Auriga sector virtually all SCG presence had been erased. It was in this year that a man named Francisco Poulini of the Noblesse class rose to infamy. He believed that the SCG was falling apart because of the inferior “Colonial Races” betraying the superior Solar race. Poulini was as charismatic and wealthy as he was cruel and malevolent resulting in a surprisingly rapid growth of followers from all of the classes of citizens many of whom blamed the Colonials for their suffering in the first place. With his new “True Solar Front” rising to power and seizing whole systems and large numbers of ships either through stealing those under construction or through mutinies Poulini inadvertently changed the war turning it into a three way civil war as the SCG fought to suppress both rebel nations and the DSC fought to save themselves from these two mortal enemies.

The War Ends 845: After five more years of brutal and indecisive battle that saw millions more deaths the SCG leadership (what remained of it) held the Council of Seta in the neutral system of Seta with the intent of bringing all warring parties to the peace table. This council lasted for the better part of the year as various parties continued military offensives in efforts to seize advantage at the peace talks. In the end however the SCG conceded defeat and set about establishing the “Treaty of Seta” which established a twenty year plan for granting independence to star systems throughout the galaxy without attempting military intervention.
The treaty also saw the League of Democratic Worlds officially transformed into the permanent government of the Democratic Solar Confederation under the leadership of First President Abha Dhawan. The DSC quickly set about establishing borders and rebuilding the damage done to its worlds over the course of the war. The treaty would also see the founding of the Altair Federation, the Hanshen Empire, the True Solar Front and a myriad of other independent systems and alliances (albeit most of these existed in all but name for years by this point).

Present Day 863: The current leader of the DSC is President Anwar Onasi who is in his first term after being elected in a landslide vote two years ago. President Onasi is a firm nationalist who believes that in order for the DSC to survive it must remain militarily strong and has become the first President since the founding of the DSC who has actively diverted massive funding towards expanding the Defense Forces. President Onasi has also stepped up efforts to make political ties with other nations such as the Altair Federation despite the historically isolationist views that the DSC has held since the ending of the Foundation War.

Culture: The DSC is as ethnically diverse as the Solar Coalition Government although far more accepting of cultural diversity than the SCG council which sought to assimilate cultures into a single homogenous “people”. The DSC is a parliamentary democracy wherein every citizen regardless of wealth and position is entitled to the same level of legal representation and rights including universal healthcare and universal education. The DSC is largely isolationist when it comes to military ventures and political interventions believing that unless the DSC itself is threatened there is no reason to partake in “Other people’s wars”. This has led to them creating economic treaties with virtually every nation in the galaxy save for Friedland, the TSF and the Anderan Regime.

Military: The Military of the DSC consists of two branches:
The Fleet: The fleet is the primary defensive force of the DSC responsible for protecting the territories of the DSC from hostile incursion as well as acting as an offensive force when required. The Fleet is also responsible for the “army” of the DSC in the form of the Fleet Mobile Infantry.
Doctrine: The Fleet holds to a strategy of “He who defends all loses all” meaning that rather than operating independent battlegroups they have their forces localized into three “Sector Fleets” which then deploy temporary formations to respond to individual crisis or threats. As part of this doctrine each of the three sector fleets contains ten battleships and a roughly even distribution of smaller ships and Mobile Infantry forces.
Mobile Infantry: The Mobile Infantry is so named because they are designed to operate as a fast reaction force operating with the largest permanent unit consisting of Regiments with administrative divisions holding sway over planetary sectors rather than specific individual units.
The Planetary Defense Force: The PDF consists of planetary militia forces meant to protect worlds from ground invasion long enough for reinforcement from the Fleet to arrive. In cases of extreme emergency PDFs can be suborned to the Fleet to participate in larger campaigns.
