Overview

Dakota Metropolis (born October 23, 2277) is an American politician serving as the 89th President of the United States. Metropolis previously served as a U.S. Senator representing Nimitz from 2320 to 2324. Prior to her political career, she served in the United States Army Special Forces as a Green Beret.

Early Life and Education

Early Life and Education Dakota Metropolis was born on October 23, 2277, in Upper Midway, one of the outer districts of the sprawling mega city. Their parents, Eliza and James Metropolis, were employed in the city's extensive public transportation system. Growing up in a modest household with minimal income beyond Universal Credit, Dakota learned the value of hard work and perseverance from an early age.

In school, Dakota showed a keen intelligence and a particular aptitude for practical problem-solving. Their teachers often noted their quick thinking and ability to grasp complex concepts, especially in subjects like history and civics. Despite their academic potential, Dakota found themselves more drawn to hands-on experiences and real-world applications of knowledge rather than theoretical studies. As they progressed through high school, Dakota became increasingly curious about life beyond the confines of Upper Midway. They devoured news reports and documentaries about other parts of the grid, developing a strong interest in the diverse cultures and challenges faced by different communities across the nation.

Although their teachers and counselors urged them to consider higher education, citing their intellectual capabilities, Dakota felt a different calling. The stories of service members and the allure of exploring the grid firsthand resonated more deeply with them than the prospect of university lectures and academic papers.

At 18, much to the surprise of their educators and the initial disappointment of their parents, Dakota made the decision to leave high school and enlist in the U.S. Army. This choice was driven by a combination of factors: a desire to serve their country, an eagerness to see more of the world beyond Upper Midway, and a belief that practical experience would be more valuable to them than traditional academic pursuits.

Dakota's decision to join the military marked a significant turning point in their life. It set them on a path that would take them far from the familiar streets of Upper Midway, exposing them to experiences and challenges that would shape their future in ways they couldn't have imagined. This early choice to prioritize real-world experience over formal education would later become a defining aspect of their personal narrative, influencing both their military career and their eventual entry into politics.

Military Career

Metropolis enlisted in the United States Army and was selected for the elite Special Forces, becoming a Green Beret. Her military career was distinguished by her participation in several high-stakes missions, demonstrating exceptional bravery and strategic acumen.

Operation Hangman

One of the most notable missions she participated in was Operation Hangman in 2314. The operation targeted the oppressive regime in Praetoria, a territory notorious for human rights abuses, including transgenic experiments, unauthorized mass gestation via exowombs, and modern slavery involving forcibly altered individuals. Praetoria's government, a quasi-corporate entity, was overthrown by U.S. forces during this operation.

During Operation Hangman, Dakota was severely injured while saving a fellow soldier under heavy fire. Despite her injuries, she managed to pull her comrade to safety, an act that exemplified her bravery and dedication to her team. This heroic act, while not making her the key figure in the mission's overall success, underscored her personal courage and commitment to her fellow soldiers. Her actions during the mission highlighted her willingness to put herself at risk for others, earning her deep respect from her peers and superiors as well as the Distinguished Service Cross. Her injures required her to have extensive cybernetic augmentation in order to continue her career as a soldier. She ultimately left the military with an honorable discharge in 2320 to run for the Senate.
