Starting Out

Population: Each faction starts with 100,000 people representing the able bodied men of fighting/working age. This population is used as a workforce, military and population from which taxes are levied. Population increases 5% per turn (month) as a starting base.

Taxes: Taxes are = to population/10 per turn. Resources: Provinces hold valuable resources within their borders, having a balance of resources is essential to the effective running of your house and can even effect your growth and advancement.

Resources come in two varieties essential and rare.

Essential Resources: These are the staples of resources you’ll need to maintain a balanced house.

Huan: The currency of the realm Huan is gained from taxing your citizens, selling goods or looting rival territories. Huan comes in three coin denominations:
Shell coin: 1 huan (the most common form of huan)
Silver Eagle: 5 Huan
Gold Dragon: 10 Huan

Timber: Harvested from forests within a province timber provides construction material for buildings, ships and siege engines. To harvest timber you need a lumber mill.

Food: Food is essential to successfully maintaining your population growth and numbers, if you can’t feed your people they will begin to die off, if you can just barely afford to keep your people fed your population will not grow. You need 1 unit of food per 10 citizens per month, to get food you’ll need a farm, rice paddy, or a ranch, either that or be able to afford to buy your food from elsewhere.

Bronze: Harvested from copper resources within a province this resource is needed for the production of bronze armor for your forces as well as construction in some buildings and ships. Bronze requires a mine to harvest and a blacksmith to actually turn it into anything.

Iron: Iron is a valuable material which is essential in the production of iron armor and weapons as well as enhancing certain ships and construction of certain buildings. This resource requires a mine to harvest and a blacksmith to actually produce anything with.

Cattle/Leather: Cattle are a resource which can be found in a few provinces, it is a valuable resource which can be turned either into a food source or a source of leather from turn to turn. Cattle require a ranch to harvest and a tannery to create leather which can be turned into armor.

Rare resources:

Gold: Gold is a valuable resource which can be used to create money. Gold is also used in wardings used in weapons and armor designed to fight demonic creatures. Gold requires a mine to harvest a mint to turn into cash and a blacksmith to add gilding to weapons and armor.

Silver: Silver is another valuable resource due to its use as both coinage and in weapons to serve against the undead and other monstrous breeds. Silver requires a mine to harvest a mint to stamp into money and a black smith to add silver to weapons and armor.

Rice: Rice is a valuable resource which can be used in one of two ways. It can either be used to create food stocks or to create rice wine. In the case of food rice adds a nice bonus to the food production capabilities of a province. In terms of rice wine it creates a population bonus resulting in total population growth going from 5 to 8% each turn (representing the ahem happier people). Rice requires a paddy for food production and a winery for production of rice wine.

Gems: Gems are an extremely valuable resource used in the enhancement of mages abilities by creating special items of power for them. Gems require a mine to harvest and a magus tower to create enchanted equipment or enhance magus powers.
