Aberrant 2.0 Playtest

Important Notes

As this is a playtest of the Aberrant 2.0 system, there will be full system rigor. This means that I will give three options for characters: full character generation, partial character generation (you build the baseline bits, I build the powerset), or pregen characters (you can customize appearance, fluff/paradigm, and Nature/etc, but the character gets built for you), depending on how much you want to personalize and how much work you want to give me. (I don't mind that much).

Premise

The year is 2021, and in the small Eastern European country called Latveria, the UN has finally decided to intervene after some very brave independent journalists (with DeVries Elite support) managed to find firsthand evidence of mass human rights violations that have shocked and horrified the world. Its Teragen-friendly Nova despot is in the process of being deposed, by a UN peacekeeping force lead by the newest superpower on the block, the Chinese in a show of strength. Or, as detractors argue, use this excuse to salvage and repossess any Novatech that Victor Novikov and his allies have developed, rather than acting out of any sort of generosity.

You are a member of Project Utopia, here to supervise, provide humanitarian aid, and defeat any Nova-level threats with minimal loss of life. Although the People's Liberation Army Special Forces (Nova) unit "Immortal Blades", the USSOCOM Nova Development Project and the EU Posthuman Threat Response Force both have squad to platoon-strength Nova assets on ground, Team Tomorrow is considered by Utopian evaluation as being overall superior combatants as well as being necessary to maintain Utopian prestige and image across the world, showing Novas that cooperation, hand-in-hand, is superior to the brand of demeaning oppression Latveria brings.

Team Tomorrow

As Utopia's most visible arm, Team Tomorrow is here to render both humanitarian aid, restore hope to the oppressed population, and subdue any Nova-level threats. Your mission is as much PR as it is practical-doing something is important, but you also have to give the impression that you're doing something-and you have to do it better than all your "allies", or else get major egg on your face the next time Utopia comes around for a funding evaluation. The Aeon Society's private philanthropy can only go so far.

Utopian Peacekeeping Force

Utopia's own small contingent of soldiers is also being sent, and some of the few lower-profile, less flashy Novas they have. This option exists for PCs who want less obvious Novas than the stars and starlets of Team Tomorrow. UPF Novas have as their primary goal rendering any and all assistance to T2M to ensure the capture of all persons of interest.

A secondary objective is observation of any high-end superscience developments fielded by either side, and if possible the capture or deep-scan of any such systems, such as energy weapons, powered combat armor, advanced cybernetics, and so on.

The Democratic Posthuman Republic of Latveria

The Deck of 52

The "Deck of 52" is a card deck of 52 of Latveria's HVTs-46 Novas (several who are also identified members of Teragen-affiliated terrorist groups), 6 baselines.

Latverian Independence Militia

Due to intensive motivation (and alleged illegal psychological reprofiling techniques) by Mega-Charismatic Latverian Novas and significant use of tactical savants in creating battle plans, losses have been higher than expected among the UN Peacekeeping Force. Several examples of superscience weapons such as combat walkers, plasma cannons, and energy shields have been spotted in use by elite soldiers, and as a Teragen-friendly nation they have access to some of the deadliest Novas on the planet.

Nova Vigilance

Nova Vigilance and the Primacy have warned that an attack on Latveria would be considered a declaration of war against all the Teragen, and have followed this up with significant terrorist attacks on Beijing, Washington DC, London, and Paris.

However, they have either miscalculated or have another goal in mind, for these attacks have not significantly reduced support for the war.

Players

As a playtest, I want approximately 5-6 players if at all possible to check if it works well enough and what to tweak.

Latverians

This is the second playtest stuff and as such will only be open as a position after the first playtest, unless people insist on having PvP duels. Even if, PvP will be limited to playtest 2.
