An Aberrant 2.1 game that adds some quirks to the way that Gadgets work, and translates it to a futuristic setting that incorporates fantastic and post-apocalyptic elements. Inspired by Blue Submarine No. 6, Final Fantasy and Brink.

Background

For one reason or another, human beings of the second millennium did not or could not avert the melting of the polar icecaps and the rise of the oceans. Much of civilization was lost to the sea and the ensuing wars over the remaining resources on the surface led to untold loss of life and the collapse of the old governments. The very bleeding edge of science was able to prevent the world from becoming entirely inhospitable to humans, but resulted in much of the world becoming seeded with plant and animal life that is actively dangerous to humans.

Humanity now survives in the world's thirteen remaining city-states, known as Acropoli by the majority of people, under the auspices of the Aeon Unity, a theocratic regime which controls access to many of the more dangerous secrets of pre-flood technology. Beyond the cities which pay homage to Aeon, scattered and primitive settlements exist in pockets of wilderness that remained relatively placcid. Others cling to the rusting shells of ancient boats and submarines, sailing vessels and tangled masses of wood and metal that pass for mobile settlements on the seas that dominate the Earth. For those beyond the polished white walls of Shinjuku Babel or Neo Venezia, the world is dangerous- life cheap and often short.

All this changed with the appearance of Divis Mal, a rebel member of the Aeon Unity who revealed himself to humanity and sent out coursing waves of power across the world. In an instant, nearly every human being was imprinted with varying degrees of latency and had the potential for Quantum etched into their genes. The Unity was swift to respond with its Legions, bringing a small majority of these empowered humans within their territories under heel, but many escaped and their numbers grow by the day.

The era heralds great changes... wrought by the children Divis Mal's legacy, the beings known as Novas.

Characters

@tlantis Blue characters exist in a world that is notably different from both the traditional Aberrant and Aeon Trinity settings. In this world, Psions have existed for several centuries (albeit in secret) under the control of the Aeon Unity. Because of this, the dynamics of N-Day are somewhat changed with Novas just past Eruption generally matched by the footsoldiers of the Unity.

The later date of N-Day has allowed Divis Mal to refine his mastery of Quantum energies, inducing the potential for Quantum/Psi latency in every human beings on the planet. In addition, every purely human Nova manifests without Noetic voiding and informational corruption, automatically gaining the benefits of the 2nd Generation Nova merit.

Eufiber (1-10 pts)

Eufiber as it exists in @tlantis Blue differs somewhat from the material produced by the Aberrant-era Nova Anibal Buendia. As chimeric lifeforms that incorporated many elements of near-Inspired technology were the mainstay of the ecological programs to prevent the Earth's glaciation or conversion into a Venusian hothouse, it wasn't entirely unexpected that some of these would react to Divis Mal's gift to humanity. Cybernetic coral seeded into the oceans mutated into large deposits of self-reproducing weakly-Quantum active metamaterials which can be processed into fantastic gravity-defying clothing. Novas and rare Quantakinetic Psions are also able to format Eufiber, making fashionable trinkets into advanced combat gear. Due to the major oceanic terraforming efforts in Southeast Asia, a large amount of Eufiber is in the hands of the Legions (and by extension, the Unity), although Shinjuku Babel and Sealand have been able to take advantage of their large harvest zones and are famous for their Eufiber goods.

Eufiber does not have any static bonuses, but instead has a pool of (Eufiber +1) points which may be used to buy upgrades. Eufiber's shape-changing effects are no longer intrinsic, but may be purchased with upgrade points. All Eufiber has Quantum capacitance as well, storing up to (Eufiber) points of Quantum.

Combat Upgrades

  • Armor: Gives (Eufiber +3) Lethal and Bashing Soak. A first repurchase doubles this soak value, while a second adds (Eufiber/2) Aggravated soak.
  • Augmentation: Gives (Eufiber) dots to physical attributes which count as equipment bonuses, which are permanently assigned. A repurchase allows these to be reassigned as a combat action.
  • Combat Strength: Adds (Eufiber/2) to either unarmed damage. A repurchase adds (Eufiber/2) in unarmed AP.
  • Combat Reflexes: Adds (Eufiber/2) to initiative. A repurchase doubles this.
  • Physical Body Modifications: Grants (Eufiber) physical body modifications which are permanent components of the outfit. A repurchase can double the number of body modifications or make them dynamic.

Utility Upgrades

  • Enviromental Shield: Gives (Eufiber) soak against environmental hazards like fire, extreme cold or caustic fumes, excluding aggravated sources (such as chlorine trifluoride, white phosphorus and hard radiation), which doubles after the first damage interval. A repurchase allows this to defend against even aggravated damage.
  • Hermetic Sealing: Grants the character an air reserve of (Eufiber) hours and gives immunity from inhaled or contact agents, while also acting as a pressure suit. Against anti-Nova compounds such as Mox and Eclipsidol, this merely gives (Eufiber) dice to resist.
  • Stealth Coating: Detecting a Nova with this Eufiber upgrade active is at a difficulty of +3. Stacks with the benefits of Chromatophores and power-based stealth, as Eufiber supplements natural stealth abilities.
  • Utility Body Modifications: Grants (Eufiber) utility or survival-based body modifications which are permanent components of the outfit. A repurchase can double the number of body modifications or make them dynamic.

Social Upgrades

  • Fashionable: Grants (Eufiber) to Appearance-based style rolls, due to being extremely stylish.
  • Shapeshifting: Grants (Eufiber/2) to Int or Wits-based style rolls (for disguises and clothing design), and allows the Eufiber to change appearance at will.
  • Social Body Modifications: Grants (Eufiber) social body modifications which are permanent components of the outfit. A repurchase can double the number of body modifications or make them dynamic.
