Overview

The Synthesis is a large polis at the north pole of luna. It consists of a armored ring arcology that encompasses the entire rim of the Peary crater. They were was born from a transhumanist solar Commonwealth science project to create sustainable posthuman lifeforms and are a group of sapient humanoids derived from human genestock. They are smaller than humans, require less volatiles and mass to support their functioning.

A fairly cohesive polity, they have a democratic system which is splintered into various political blocs which are generally agreeable though stagnant. Economically, it is a egalitarian society in which the resources of the nation are shared equally. As a near post-scarcity civilization and with little of the material wants present in humans, most resources are directed to supporting apparatus of state, which has plenty of wants.

During the long night, attempts were made to breach the polis through abandoned maglev tubes. Though they were nothing more than poorly armed refugees, the Syntha disposed of the threat mercilessly, sealing the tubes and noting them for the future. While initially the Syntha enclave was relatively modest, they have for centuries continued to dig deeply, plunging new habitation complexes into the crust.

The Syntha Clade

The Syntha are a transhumanoid race derived from the human genome. They were designed to be affable and friendly, but the resulting Syntha are aloof, haughty and convinced of their manifest destiny.

Physically, Syn’s are about four feet tall, with generally youthful faces, multicoloured eyes and are entirely hairless except for eyebrows and the top of their head, which they generally wear long. Their brains are slightly smaller than a humans, having undergone significant alteration to improve efficiency and energy usage. Some autonomic functions have been moved to other parts of the body in order to support a reduced cranium. They are stronger than they appear and quite athletic. They have a number of resource conservation traits, including the ability to hibernate.

Their most radical change is in terms of reproduction. Syntha are hermaphrodites which completely lack any form of sexuality. Syntha can produce up to one ovum egg every year and a number of spermatozoon eggs. They reproduce by placing a spermatozoon egg inside the ovum via a single tentacle at the apex of the egg. Eggs are produced in a distinct variety of shades and mating is usually performed by matching colors. Once fertilised, the egg will grow. Syntha produce protein balls which they can use to feed the egg. Syntha eggs generally take 18 months to mature.

Syntha in theory raise children on their own, or as part of a larger social group which they may belong as they generally do not form traditional familial units. In practice however, most Syntha are raised by the state which raises questions about the nature of it's 'democracy'.

The Polis

THe Syntha Polis encircles the Peary crater. It consists of a torus with a armoured shell 230 kilometers in circumference, with a minor diameter of 2 kilometers. This is buried 25 meters below the surface. Above this lies a four meter diameter utility tunnel buried just below the lunar regolith layer and which connects to the Polis via eight security hatches. It contains a maglev transport system and also contains utility pipes which connect the surface installations to the Polis. The extensive Polis security systems are buried in the lunar regolith (which in this region is typically 5-10 meters thick) and are fully automated. The surface also contains extensive solar arrays, which are camouflaged and difficult to detect from the surface or orbit.

International Affairs

The Synthesis regards humanity with a deep curiosity, ultimately the Syntha are a product of their intelligence. They have a longterm view that humanity as a whole must progress and break free of it's bestial nature shackles. This is expressed In a broadly pro-transhumanist outlook.

The Synthesis deals with outsiders through an organization known as the ‘Extra-national Circumstance Index’, which is divided into the Diplomatic/Intelligence wing known as ‘ENVOY’ and the military wing referred to as ‘SENTINEL’.

The ECI is also responsible for the military-industrial complex of the Synthesis and broadly handles all sensitive research materials and data with a national security implication. The ECI is a paranoid organisation, the internal 'harmony' of the Synthesis does not apply to the greater galaxy and the ECI takes a measured view of human affairs, some polities are to be strengthened, others to be weakened. For all outward appearances, the ECI is accepting of outsiders and attempts to maintain at the bare minimum, cordial relations with most powers.

ENVOY

ENVOY is the diplomatic arm of the ECI, it deals with outsiders of all types and also includes the Counter-Intelligence and Intelligence services.

SENTINEL

SENTINEL is the military of the Synthesis. The Syntha assigned to the SENTINEL military are cybernetically augmented and make it their mission to study, learn and adapt to human methods of war-fighting.
