Background

Adela was born in the Old City of Hyderabad, and had the sort of childhood one might expect of somebody growing up in an Old City. Schooling was hard to come by, and certainly there was no way to learn skills that might actually be useful in a modern economy. Not unusually, she turned to a life of crime, starting with pickpocketing and shoplifting, then moving on to burglary and, as she got older, thuggery and assault. It was not a surprise, therefore, that she ended up as a 'respected' member of a street gang. As far as she was concerned, life was acceptable.

Whatever their faults, and there were many, the criminals, gangs and other riffraff that infested the city were, at least, locals. While there was nothing approaching a code of conduct or even social rules, there was an expected way of doing things. Foreigners making waves were, therefore, unpopular and obvious. Nobody was happy when the Ai-Jinn set up an operation in the city, least of all Comoros themselves. An operation was launched to expel the interlopers, and the Corporation turned to the gangs, street thugs and other criminals to secure a supply of warm bodies that nobody important would miss if things went horribly wrong. Those volunteers that were accepted- generally those without any obvious psychological maladies, diseases or outstanding arrest warrants- were given a modicum of training and light weapons, as well as exposure to a great deal of Comoros propaganda.

It was during this operation that Adela distinguished herself enough to be considered for selection as an Agent, and also the point at which the glimmer of an idea that there had to be something more to life than gang warfare and burglary. It was another two years until Comoros actually contacted her for recruitment, and by that time she had become something of a true believer, much to the amusement of her fellows... not that any of them would let her know that, given her propensity for blows below the belt.

Having had little formal schooling, Adela is not particularly accomplished in technical and scientific skills, but is a skillful close combat fighter. Likewise, she knows her way around a set of lockpicks and how to hide and move unseen. Likewise, her personality isn't well suited to fitting in to high society, and she is barely competent when driving a car or other ground vehicle, having had little practice before being recruited.
