Sierra Rey
Overview
Background
A child of two heroes from old earth's France, Sierra grew up in the shadow of her amazing parents, two heroes of earth who managed to avoid the tides of taint that flowed across novas there. After leaving earth with their young daughter, the two became protectors of the colony of Renaissance. Through her childhood and adolescence, Sierra spent her time switching between desperate efforts to meet her parents impossible expectations and periods of rebellion against them.
It was in a period of both that Sierra went for an extended camping trip into the wilderness at the colonies edge. She intended to both train there and also to get some rest from the by this point awful relationship with her parents.
Three weeks into her retreat, a star fell on the colony. Sierra knew immediately that something was wrong. She heard the sound of the star fall, and began to travel back towards the colony. On the way she began to dream, but this was not dreams but communication.
The creature called itself Glosis. It told Sierra that she would bear witness. It told her that it was an elder being, product of an eruption of novas far older than humanity. It whispered that it was an artist, and that she would no see its art. It told her that the art had a higher purpose, and one day she would learn what it was.
It made the colony its art. When Sierra returned she found most of the colonists still alive, they stayed that way for the next three or four days. Fortunately this did not include her parents, who had died allowing some few of the coloniest to escape in the colony ship. However Sierra found most everyone she knew changed, posed, cataclysmically remade to the elder beings whim. The shuttle never returned, but eventually another ship came and Sierra was lifted away. From then on her life had a purpose: One day she would destroy Glosis.
