The Fermion Synthesis

History

Not much is known of the original project, the Syntha were launched into deep space aboard a generation Ship capable of supporting them indefinitely. The Syntha returned to Earth several hundred years later, to find a nascent space-capable civilization struggling to support itself after a devastating nuclear and biological war.

Overview

The Synthesis was born from a project to create sustainable high tech lifeforms and are a group of sapient humanoids derived from humanity lifeforms. Syn are highly emphatic, with heightened responses to distress in others. Designed for low-aggressive and cooperation they were required to be enthusiast and encourage bonding behaviours. A deeply creative species, they value art, music and scientific pursuits.

The structure of society begins with the basic social unit, of 20 Syntha who interact in a residence. These Syntha will form the basic biological network unit and will share all experiences with each other during downtime each of them connecting to each other in order to share the days events and perceptions. Within the group, primary and secondary experiences often merge and thus to many, each group of twenty can seem very similar, or almost identical to an outsider. Within greater Syntha society, through the wireless consciousness, greater differentiation is maintained in order to faciliate different perspectives which faciliate growth and alternative points of view.

A common Synthatic proverb is "Identity is a function of perspective".

The Synthesis is a post-capitalist economy, there are no actual possessions has Syntha lack material desires, though they of course have objects they use and cherish to some degree, everything is communally owned and the constant interconnection between each member of the group allows for perfect planning of any particular 'needs'. The breakdown resulted in a highly insular economy, the equal living standards of all Synthesis allow for a high degree of living quality compared to the size of the economy.

Broad biology and Recap

Syn’s are about five feet tall, with generally youthful faces, multicoloured Heterochromiatic eyes and minimal obvious hair below the neck. Syn’s express individual identify through their luminescent markers which are unique to each individual, which are used to indicate various emotional stresses involuntary to quickly alert others to distress if they have 'firewalled' their memory from the network for whatever reason. Syns come in pairs, in terms of appearance they are identifical twins, except for hair colour. The other physical distinguishment is each twin has reversed Heterochromia. One might have a green left eye and a red right eye, the other will have the opposite.

Syntha are not human, they are bioroids with an artificial genetic structure.

International Affairs

The Synthesis regards humanity with a deep curiosity, ultimately the Syntha are a product of their intelligence. They have a longterm view that humanity as a whole must progress and break free of it's evolutionary shackles, that cause sapient suffering. This is expressed In a broadly pro-transhumanist outlook. Though they value individual liberty to a greater degree than their own society would suggest.

The Fermion Synthesis deals with outsiders through an organization known as the ‘Extranational Circumstance Index’, which is divided into the Diplomatic/Intelligence wing known as ‘ENVOY’ and the military wing referred to as ‘SENTINEL’. The ECI is also responsible for the military-industrial complex of the Synthesis and broadly handles all sensitive research materials and data with a national security implication. The ECI is a paranoid organisation, the internal harmony of the Synthesis collective does not apply to the greater galaxy and the ECI takes a measured view of human affairs, some polities are to be strengthened, others to be weakened. It is also constantly pushing the boundaries of military technology and engineering in order to ensure parity with other polities, or supremacy. For all outward appearences, the ECI is accepting of outsiders and attempts to maintain at the bare minimum, cordial relations with most powers.

ENVOY

ENVOY is the diplomatic arm of the ECI, it deals with outsiders of all types and also includes the Counter-Intelligence and Intelligence services. ENVOY employs diplomatic staff who are slightly taller than the norm, using the original template designed to interact with the original colonists humans, short by human standards but tall by the standards of common Syntha.

SENTINEL

SENTINEL is the military of the Synthesis. The Syntha assigned to the SENTINEL military are deliberately created, cybernetically augmented, who make it their mission to study, learn and adapt to human methods of war-fighting. This includes full historical studies up until the First Space War. SENTINEL and the rest of the Synthesis rarely interact, Soldier Type Syntha are cold and calculating. Though they could be described as ruthless, they will only act to achieve their objectives with minimal harm to themselves and others. Where objectives can be met with minimal force, they will pursue that course of action.

SENTINELs Naval component consists of large capital vessels which often contain significant civilian facilities within. The Syntha despite having a 'pure' military, do not operate pure military vessels. Each one is a armed exploration vessel with a mixture of ENVOY/SENTINEL staff.

Technology

Syntha technology is advanced. They have advanced biotechnology and have effectively fused and blurred the lines between biology and technology with bionanites. Never really at threat from any external forces, but acutely aware of the possibilities, their military technology is artful and even their most heavily armed vessels show graceful curves that have been carefully cultivated and grown using bionano technology.
