The Omega Augmentation Programme is available only to those awarded the title of Cataphract, typically Elite soldiers and Commanderss. They have a vastly boosted physiology, including cybernetic synthetic musculature, fibre optical nervous transfer systems and significantly boosted intelligence and coordination. In addition, they have significant subdermal armour and internally boosted skeletal support. Few in the human sphere would realise facing a squad of Omegas.

Outer Heaven

“War is the ultimate test, the ultimate game, the ultimate art, is it quite simply the ultimate form of expression.” Fermion-2094

"Embrace your individual prowess as a Warrior. We did not form Outer Heaven to march in lines with shaved heads like an army of ducklings. We fight not only as one, but as 'one'. Never forget that you are all rivals, nor forget that you are all united in arms. It is this dissonance that must drive you, cooperation and competition. The fine balance that makes a true Warrior rise above his peers." Fermion-2094

Outer Heaven is a harsh militant state, do not let their feminine aesthetics dissuade you from that notion. The average Outer is a hardened soldier, ready to prove themselves on the social ladder of personal combat and warfare. They are militant for the sake of martial prowess, they are not militant for political, religious or reasons of power, they merely revel in the art of warfare as the ultimate form of expression. They seek to attain the pinnacle of sentient warfighting ability, espousing a Exhumanist supremacist ideal that emphasises individual promotion and constant improvement.

Structure of Society

There are no civilians in Outer Heaven, everything is part of the singular military ideal, the Agricultural specialist is part of the logistical train, every much as part of the machine as the Mecha pilot, though with less prestige and importance. Advancement in Outer Heaven is a function of ability on the battlefield in your chosen 'Guardian Branch'. The Guards are Ground Ops, Aerospace Ops and Deep Space Ops. Support & Logistical Ops is a field, but one lacking prestige.

IMPERTRIX

IMPERTRIX is responsible for the leadership of Outer Heaven, forming the grand strategy and managing external relations. A subset of IMPERTRIX is SENTINEL, the Black Ops of Outer Heaven.

TERRA Guard

Ground Pounders. In the realm of Outer Heaven, this garners the most respect.

AERO ASTRA Guard

Aerospace covers most craft piloted by individuals in air or space.

ATLUS ASTRA Guard

Deep Spacers are the fleet arm, consisting of larger warships.

LOGOS Guard

Civilians in any other nation, they are the engineering and support backbone of Outer Heaven, ensuring the lights are on and the soldiers fed.

The Index

Arguably the most important aspect of Outer Heaven society is the Index. It's primary rating categories are Leadership Strategic, Leadership Tactical and Combat Arms Ability. Soldiers typically aim to excel in one of these areas in order to distinguish themselves.

The Index defines your role and position in the machinery of Outer Heaven. All members of Outer Heaven are subject to a constant monitoring and rating of combat performance in a series of ratings that combine overall to place you within the Index. Functionally, the Leader of Outer Heaven is at the top of the Index, though in practice, the soldier with the highest strategic rating is usually placed at the top. The Index is a complex mathematically formula designed to rate a soldiers ability in all fields of combat, from leadership skills, to personal firearms discipline.

Notionally, the method of increasing your Index will be on Mercenary Assignments and in one of the duels that form a staple of Outer Heaven Life. The Calender of Life within a Outer Heaven year is based on a series of mandatory combat duels and tournaments to challenge existing holders of positions. Soldiers on assignment are also rated, with a small bonus assigned for actual combat operations.

Duels

There are various duels in Outer Heaven Society and they are usually fought in a real and/or virtual environment depending on the nature of the duel. They are the primary means of gauging a individuals combat prowess and involve simulations of situations, direct one on one fights in a arena or a series of wargames testing strategic and tactical thinking.

Important Titles

The majority of Outer Heaven follows a standard efficient military model. However, certain important positions and awards, are given as Titles, offering prestige and extra use of resources and augmentation. In keeping with the broadly romano-greek styling of Outer Heaven, the titles and positions are modelled vaguely after the Eastern Roman Empire.

Exarchos

The Exarchos is the 'Head of State' and 'Head of Government' of Outer Heaven.

Stratēgos

A Strategos is one of three Military commanders who answer directly to the Exarchos. Representing Each of the Guards of the Military Society. Along with the Exarchos, they form the ruling IMPERTRIX.

Logothete

A lesser title given to the head of the Logistical Guard.

Cataphract

A title awarded for distinction, making the soldier a Cataphracti, one of the Elite. All Omega Templates are at least Cataphracts. Cataphracts are allowed the use of a distinguishing emblem and are rewarded with higher living standards. Cataphract are also gifted Diamondoid swords, as a symbol of their position.

Akolouthos

Acolytes, those with promise. This is a minor title awarded to those who reach a index level that grants the Tau template.

Planetary Geography

At the equatorial region, the surface air temperature is considerable, life exists here however, due to large reservoirs of water just under the surface and the high albedo of the terrain. Jechtan is a planet of white sands and were it not for the relatively high amounts of greenhouse gases, it would be cold, in spite of the high levels of solar insolation.

Jechtan is one of the few worlds to have a original ecology, the planet receives an abundance of solar insurance, resulting in near white pigment plants forced to bounce much of it back to space to avoid overheating, the landscape is dominated by scattered bands of this radiation resistance flora that rise hundreds of meters skyward, with huge stiff leaves that leave much of the forest in permanent shade. These have grown from various oasis that have developed, expanding outwards with their shade. These massive jungles are spread across the tropical band of the planet, often tracing along underground rivers.

This canopy consumes the vast majority of light, leaving the underbrush reliant on parasitic species feeding off the trees and their biological waste. The harsh radiation eventually kills off even the hardiest leaves and they are frequently replaced, the old leaves falling to the ground where they provide much of the decaying matter that fuels the undergrowth as well as temporarily allowing light to reach down into the under-canopy. Bioluminscence is common in the under-canopy, the animals and plants constantly evolving forms of it in response to selective pressures, prey using it as communication, plants using it to attract predators who will spread their pollen and eventually predators to attract prey, mimic prey or communicate in the darkness. With a wide temperature range due to the 92 hour day/night cycle , rainfall levels are considerable, during the night rains are quite common due to the cooling air.

At the north pole, there is a large ancient crater sea, roughly several hundred kilometers in radius and over twenty kilometers deep. Filled with water it is thought be a comet impact site and is home to the Outer Heaven Capital known as Big Shell, due to the large geodesic shell covering the city to protect it from the solar radiation.

Exhuman Augmentation

Base

All Outers share a similar base physiology, due to adaptation to the environment of Jecht.

Outers at first glance are typical humans, if slim. But changes are immediately visible in their extremely pale colouration. They have skin that is usually perfect white with a unusual sheen. This is because the skin is in fact scales, a sheet of smooth yet tough scales forms a dermal layer to not only reflect the extreme solar radiation of Jecht, but to protect against non-visible radiation and to retain moisture. Titanium oxide makes up the majority of the scale, being an effective white pigment and screen against UV radiation.

The Scale layer itself is covered by a easily shed outer dermal layer which protects the scaled layer when not in use resulting in the pale human appearance of Outers, rather than something akin to a reptile as one might expect.

Due to the environment, Jecht is a intensely bright planet, from the blazing star to the white vegetation a normal human would become blind very quickly. Outers have nictating membranes with reflective protection, much like sunglasses.

Due to the higher carbon content and lower atmospheric pressure, Outers have a increased oxygen carrying capacity, as well as increased lung efficiency.

While not baseline, 15% of the Outer Heaven population have no significant augmentation beyond baseline standards. They form a underclass of menial workers and hopefuls.
