| | Nemex awoke, stretching slighty it squeezed free of the bodies sleeping soundly around it, it’s pair partner was also stirring. Nemex smirked, reaching out to stroke Nenex’s face, who reciptrocated with a soft smile. They were in a circular room, who’s edge was soft smartmat bed occupied by the twenty or so members of the genus as they were called, there was a inner table with room for everyone and a central food dispenser and holoprojector for watching films. |
|
| |
|
| ==History==
| | The others were beginning to murmur, as they began to awake, food was already been provided as Nemex got comfortable in it’s couch. |
| The Andrynian Empire arose from the machinations of a cabal of warlocks, led by the self-styled Dark Lord Andryn. Whether this first emperor was Alfar, human, or something else entirely remains disputed to this day. What is known is that he spent the better part of two decades in the jungle-covered highlands of <needs map>, far away from the prying eyes of the crumbling Alfar Empire, seeking out the then barbarous tribes of trolls and subjugating them. The isolated outlying provinces of the Alfar Empire initially crumbled before the advance of his monstrous horde when it finally emerged from the rainforests. | |
| However, to Andryn's great displeasure, an invasion by an army of savage monsters supported by infernal magic proved to be just what it took to re-ignite the dying fighting spirit of the waning Alfars. He found out the hard way that savage trolls with only the barest veneer of civilisation were not yet a match for what remained of the professional Alfar military, and his initial successes turned into a desperate rout.
| |
| Bloodied, beaten, and bitter, the Dark Lord's forces retreated into the safety of the jungles, reduced to hiding out and lording over simple troll villages instead of the rich Alfar provinces. Rather than sink into depression, Andryn swore to return to Alfar lands one day. In the meantime, he tried to make the best of a bad situation and started educating his brutish minions, making use of the human slaves they had dragged along during the retreat, and encouraged his subordinate warlocks to do the same. In stark contrast to his previous ventured, civilising the trolls was successful beyond his wildest expectations. However, it would be up to his descendants to expand his empire to its current borders.

| |
| | |
| “We all live with memories. We all remember our past lives, the pain of living, the pain of dying and the joy of rebirth.”
| |
| | |
| The Empire of Elysium
| |
| | |
| The Revenants of Elysium prefer the term, ‘Returned’ or the ‘gifted’ and are lead by the Risen Emperor Galandrius Yü, once a great lord of the Alfar who died in service of the Orthodoxy during the necromantic wars and was returned to the world to continue his service.
| |
| | |
| The Necromantic wars shattered Lemuria and as the dead piled up, so did the Returned. The question of the returned dominated several councils, the lands of Lemuria were devoid of life in many parts, with few left to return and it was resolved to grand some portion of these lands to the Returned, as a reward for returning from the heavens to this mortal plane to fight the menace of evil and tyranny.
| |
| | |
| Perhaps the most notable of them, formed the Empire of Elysium, lead by the gallant and charismatic Lord Galandrius Yu and compromising of some of the most valiant and pious of the Returned.
| |
| | |
| | |
| | |
| The Returned of Elysium for the most part, do not reside in typical cities. The realm they were gifted contained ancient tunnels running through the earth, disdainful for the most part of sunlight which damages their fragile vanity, they dwell in great sepulchers or catacombs and crypts carved from the underdark, entire labyrinths and great caverns filled with the Returned.
| |
| | |
| While the returned can appreciate the joy of music, the beauty of art, the comfort of a warm bed is no longer something they aspire to. Thus their halls have become vessels for art and splender, their beds are elaborate burial chambers celebrating their mortal lives.
| |
| | |
| While they never tire, Revenants usually must enter a period of torpor, for hours, days, weeks or years in order to maintain sanity and meditate in order to restore the magical forces that animate their bodies.
| |
| | |
| The poorest of the realm reside in the communial pits, simple apartment blocks containing hundreds of simple stone coffins.
| |
| | |
| The Masquerade:
| |
| | |
| Many young man has laid with a lass met in the taverns of Alhime, only to discover in the morning light the lifeless pale body of a woman who does not sleep and does not breathe. For the ladies and lords of Elysium, appearances can be deceptive.
| |
| | |
| Elysium’s elite knows Alfar lords and ladies, Asgar nobles fallen in battle and all have a taste for the finer delights of existence and many have long since been reduced to animated skeletons, some take a yearning for earthly delights further, grinding down the bones of their face so that they may better fit on a costume of magically enchanted flesh and regal in an appearance of near vitality.
