The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 44 states, a federal district, three major self-governing territories, and various possessions. The United States of the 25th century is spread across several major worlds, Earth, Acheron, Tirol, Olympia and several large space complexes. It's capital is Columbia City on Tirol and it's largest city by population is New San Angeles.
The United States has recently re-unified, absorbing several successor states, most notably the majority of states in North America and mostly recently the Jefferson Republic. It does however has a continuity of government stretching back to the First United States Congress in 1789.
