Paradigm
Rolina is a rare mix among the Choristers: a Valentinian Gnostic deeply influenced by the analytical psychology of Carl Jung. Her conception of the Monad is as something akin to a sea of the mind, an immortal and transcendent collective unconscious which predates humanity. Ideas and things emerge from it through individuation and self-identification, the Aeons first creating the constants or metaphysical archetypes that are defined as Spheres, and the Aeon known as the Sophia giving metaphysical birth to the spiritual being Demiurge, who drew these constants together to know itself and achieve Gnosis. In doing so, it created the tenth sphere on which is sat like a throne, only to realize that the other nine now surrounded it like a cage.
The Demiurge became isolated from the Pleroma and forgot itself, giving into neurosis and forging a world as it attempted to recreate the Monad's first creation without memory. This being is is not Satan (nor does such a being exist) or a malefactor, but a warning sign: that Gnosis and Ascension is fraught with perils and chances at false enlightenment that cannot be unlearned without great effort. The social nature of humanity is the wellspring of their awakening, as their collective dreaming became a reflection for the Pleroma that allowed them to self-define collectively away from the base state of nature, and then form their own egos as individuals.
In his desire to curb their growing awareness of the world and maintain his Creation, the Demiurge threw many curses down upon humans: to make man and woman separate, to give man many languages and many gods to worship and bringing about great disasters to destroy their wonder and make them fear power. This failed, the images of fire and floods and powerful gods became elements of the human psyche. In making humans more different from one another, he made their dreams more vivid and willworking more powerful than ever.
In his final act as their ruler, the Demiurge imposed strict laws of what humans could and could not do, creating the thing known as Paradox in the process. These strict laws bound all humans to the physical and made them fated to die, but it also removed his hold over them as they were forbidden from approaching what he perceived as the divine (ergo, himself), relegating him to a mere Shadow sitting within tangles of the unconscious.
The Technocracy are the archetypal Demiurge made manifest, cut off from true knowledge and indulging in imperfect creation, calcifying the world and suppressing Gnosis. Through the Marauders are rendered his neurosis, creating disordered worlds in a flawed attempt to recreate the endless possibilities contained within the Monadic unconscious. The Nephandus have become consumed by their own whispering shadows, collapsing into the same prison of nihilistic self-loathing that has become the creator's last and greatest of prisons.
