Alabaster Dream of the Darkened Radiant

Story

The Abyssal now known as the Alabaster Dream of the Darkened Radiant was originally a young journalist touring the worlds of the Gem Cluster to report on the unrest when her group was attacked by terrorists. Picking up a gun dropped by one of the hired locals who'd ran at the first sign of trouble she attempted to defend the group - with predictable results. The last thing she remembered of her pre-exaltation life was lying in a world of pain, crumpled against the wall as her life's blood poured out.

And then a voice - in her ears or in her mind - saying Do you want your revenge?"

When she awoke from her dream she found her body and mind reworked by the the arcane technology of the Tomb-Stars and a new name - the Alabaster Dream of the Darkened Radiant. Swearing her loyalty to the Tomb-Star that called itself simply The Eschaton she became a Dark Soldier.

For years she laboured alongside and apprenticed under the experienced Abyssal, Serene Mask of Purest Ruin. She learned the myriad ways to bring death, from the thunderous violence of a gunbattle to the languid slipping away of a poisoned lover. Together they slowly wove the grand designs of the Tomb-Stars - here removing a magistrate from power, there bloodily terminating a too-powerful criminal gang, sometimes simply eliminating an innocent who held some potential future. She asked no questions and recieved no answers.

Until the day that the Serene Mask of Purest Ruin was murdered in betrayal most foul by fellow agents of the Tomb-Stars. Gunned down by hired hitmen in what should have been a meeting of equals, it was as if something broke inside Alabaster. The eschatology that filled her veins and webbed her skeleton healed the scars of her body but did nothing for her mind. Worst of all the Eschaton had gone silent, no longer whispering advice and orders into her ears.

It was as if she had awoken from her dream within a dream. And she fled. Fled to where she could vanish into the masses of humanity and plot her revenge. But blood will be blood, and her new nature led her to continue walking the path of the murderess and assassin, but now she acts of her own free will . . . or so she hopes.
