Tarstein Empire

The former state of Greater Tarstein was one of the unsurpassed losers in the General War. Once a province of the Belkar Empire, its fleets and soldiers fought against secessionism and for the preservation of the empire, corrupt as it was, which had stood since time immemorial. Ultimately the damage to the empire's foundations meant it could never be held together with anything but force of arms, and all attempts at reunification failed utterly. For Tarstein, the General War began with poorly informed optimism and ended in humiliation. Suffering waves of defeats over the course of the war throught its expansive holdings and across the all too broad front it had embarked upon, the then-regent Thalos Makan was forced to sue for armistice or risk total collapse.

Peace came at a heavy price. All of Tarstein's vast colonial holdings were surrendered, war reparations were levied on its government, the size of its active fleet was restricted and it was forbidden by treaty from the construction of any new capital warships for a period of twenty five years. Agreeing to the treaty ended three hundred years of Belkar rule, as the representative of the crown resigned in disgrace shortly after its signing. Virtually every member of the imperial government of any importance followed suit, perhaps motivated by an all too real possibility of violence and retribution waiting for them if they stayed.

From then on a soverign state unto itself, Tarstein crowned its first Terion ruler, Leopold I, and has labored to restore its national dignity. The terms of the peace treaty were faithfully, though resentfully upheld, and following on the twenty fifth anniversary of the war and the end of reparations, a new sense of optimism has taken root and the nation has begun to look outward once again.

The Crimson Deeps

A nebulous expanse of rich and vibrantly colored gas, the Deeps have served as a buffer between the outer reaches and the settled isles of Tarstein. Towards the end of the General War, it also became home to a number of military installations hidden in its opaque vastness. Rumors persist that the ominous clouds are laced with minefields, and somewhere inside the remains of the Imperial Fleet have languished at anchor for the past two decades.

Tarstein Heartlands

Settled and developed long before the Belkar Empire, the Tarstein homelands are two large concentrations of islands separated by an expanse of islets overgrown with lush plant life.

The Alan Turing Project

A lack of strategic intelligence was a key factor in Tarstein's defeat in the General War and an ongoing problem in the uneasy peace that followed. Under the State Secrets Act, a new and silent organization was formed with the sole purpose of advancing the Empire's cryptanalysis and signals interception capabilities.

All Or Nothing

Pioneered by the Belkar Empire and first used for ships of the Imperial Fleet, this armor scheme still offers superior protection for its weight even after twenty five years.

The Imperator Martel
The only remaining functioning member of the Belkan Autarch class of 'command battleships', the Imperator Martel is an immense predreadnought and one of the largest warships ever built. Unfortunately with a decade of hard fighting behind her she is a tired ship and can barely keep up with the fleet on a good day. However her sheer spaciousness makes her an unparalled command platform and none of the admirality would condone getting rid of such a well-appointed(outfitted) ship.
