Extinct Races

Some races didn't make it into the depths.

Vitare/Mitare

A pair of winged, bird-like humanoid species with a common ancestor - Vitare once graced floating islands above the world, held up by lost magic, while the Mitare lived on the earth in mountainous regions.

Very few made it underground during the freeze, and the few Mitare who did couldn't adapt to the underground lands. Some Mitare colonies may still exist in the Upper Realms, but they are largely abandoned; Vitare islands are long-gone, and would only survive through miraculous means. Their artifacts still exist, held in these lost holds or by those who gained them by purchase or theft centuries ago.

Races

The Fleshborn

Some caverns in the Underrealms are not made of stone. Their walls are a deep red to glowing pink, warm to the touch, though dry and as resilient as stone. They can be mined to produce living rock, which has some applications for defense, though is unsuited for complex work and reacts strangely to some magics. The caverns contain strange plants and animals found no-where else, but the most notable inhabitants find visitors just as strange.

The Fleshborn, as they call themselves, are more like golems than living people, nominally humanoid and composed of similar, more complex versions of their fleshy home's walls.
