"Captain" Yekaterina Du Lac

Background: Yekaterina Gerard Lapoint Du Lac is a rather (in)famous war hero from the Hegemony of Russian nationality (and French descent). As a teen she witnessed the Russian Federation come apart at the seams and her world slide into chaos. She quietly escaped her parents and fled down the Dnieper to the Hegemony, where she successfully lied about her age to join the famed all-Russian tágma tōn varángōn special forces unit, commonly known as the Varangian Guard. It was only after a literal chest full of medals and a promotion to the rank of dekarchos, or captain, that the truth came out. Her story was spun into inspirational gold in the skilled hands of the hegemonia propaganda machine and became something of a media sensation.

The captain defected(?!) for unknown reasons. Many in the intelligence community question the sincerity of this change of heart, and her sanity, given her that she has made certain comments and gestures at inappropriate moments despite visibly struggling to restrain herself. Determined to make up in some small way for the damage she's caused, but unable to join organizations like the Salvation Project for obvious reasons and unwilling to sign onto a G.33 military, she drifted into a spiral of depression. That ended when she was picked up by the Valiant Arms Inc as a consultant regarding Hegemonia weapons and as a bodyguard for the company's young heir.

As a result of being traumatically wounded quite frequently throughout her career in the hegemonia's service - including one spectacular bomb incident when fighting in a village in West Asia only a few months prior to her defection - it's rumored one of her limbs is entirely prosthetic. It doesn't help that she insists on wearing gloves and seems to suffer troubling lapses in memory.

As the Hegemony's war efforts began to heat up, combat studies and hard won experience indicated that outdated, generalist heílotes was becoming increasingly ineffective even as a mass-produced second rate machine. A plan was put into motion to iterate the aging but quite substantial heílotes fleet into a family of cheap, mutually supportive specialist designs collectively known as the psiloi. Three variants have been fielded thus far: the toxotes with long range coilguns for mass suppressive fires, the sphendonitai armed with cruise missile launchers to destroy specific targets, and the stripped down light skirmisher akontistai. For such a large scale project much of the details were successfully kept a state secret until war hero Yekaterina Du Lac unexpectedly defected in dramatic fashion by crashing one of the akontistai variant prototypes undergoing atmospheric flight trials into a hillside - and not a few windmills - in Dutch territory.

Bio: Roman is heir to the Valiant Arms Inc., a multi-national mecha manufacturer that specializes in Pilot interfaces and onboard AI. While he comes of age, he pursues his eduacation, and works amid the company as a test pilot for one of the test models.

Roman is a young, bombastic man with light brown hair and green eyes. He's often well-dressed outside of his mecha, and tends to be quite friendly.

Roman's constant companions include his minder, Anastaysia du Lac, employed to train him in the practical side of mecha combat, and his personal combat AI, Calico VA, a cat-eared girl who serves as his unit's onboard combat/pilot AI as well as a PDA.

Description: The Julius is the original test unit for Valiant Arms R&D, used to test their new weapons and onboard systems for commercial production. It was designed around two primary experimental systems: The Static Field system, which generates a charged field useful for electronics disruption and melee attack, and the ability to support advanced Artificial Intelligence systems. These systems synchronize with a human pilot, allowing for far more advanced piloting and direct MMI integration, with a human mind working in perfect tandem with an artificial intelligence.

It's notable for its wide, disc-like upper torso and spindly limbs and legs, with a thin lower torso.

The Red

Appearance:
Red is a young, though deceptively tall girl of apparent Middle Eastern/North African origins, with long, red hair usually done up in a ponytail and dark brown eyes. (the hair may or may not be dyed) Tends to wear her flightsuit most of the time.

Background:
"I have no regrets."

The Red. The 27th Hero of the People, travelling Earth and the Plates alike, seeking to right wrongs, correct injustices and fight for the cause of world peace. Predictably, this is not a job with high life expectancy. (as the fact that there have been 27 Heroes in less than twice as many years shows)

The Heroes of the People are soldiers without a nation, warriors without a lineage, mercenaries that work pro bono - unbound and free to act against injustice and war damages that are all too common in this era, where war has spread all over the Solar System and entire nations are torn down on Earth. The only qualifier for the title is one's skill and one's dedication to its ideals - several times, there were multiple Heroes active at the same time, though that state of affairs rarely remains for long.

A lot of Red's history is unclear - even her true name is not known, the girl herself being a war orphan picked up by her adopted father, the 26th Hero of the People, from a warzone, surrounded by dead bodies in a purged village, her past life mostly forgotten amidst the trauma. She grew up in the homeland of her father, Poland, and in time regained her happiness - and eventually followed in her father's footsteps, taking on the name of Red. Ethnically, she appears to be of Middle Eastern or North African origins, however.

Red being an adopted daughter of a former Hero, who fell in the line of duty, is rather unusual, as is her young age. However, so far, she has managed to prove herself deserving of that mantle, using her machine and the training she received to follow her dream of a peaceful world - her blood hot and her spirit soaring, even if in practice the path she walks is lonely and dooms her to an early death. She feels that it is worth it, however, although she sometimes feels inadequate - both because she still lacks many of the non-combat skills essential to a hero, and because her upbringing ultimately has left a large hole where a person's normal life should be.

It is also known that she is associated with the organisation known as the Salvation Project - a large international non-governmental organisation, focused on providing humanitarian aid in war-torn regions, both on Earth and in space, and minimising war damages that ensue when nation states and various mercenary groups clash. It is mostly known in public for cooperating with other NGOs with similiar goals and certain independent journalists, providing them with transportation to various hot spots in the Solar System, further resources and ultimately security - occasionally even playing the somewhat surreal role of a pro bono PMC in particularly troubled regions, acting in order to put an end to ongoing war crimes. (as long as they are not war crimes committed by major governments, of course, though Red doesn't seem to care much about that point)

The Salvation Project has been associated with the Heroes since the times of the 11th Hero and Red continues this close relationship, making use of Salvation's vessels and intelligence to travel around the Solar System. It is rumoured that Rudy itself, a bleeding-edge Bumar-Dassault mecha, had been provided to her by them, though exactly how the organisation had managed to acquire a highly sophisticated G.33 military prototype is not known, although the theories are many and varied, especially since Bumar-Dassault itself seems very reluctant to comment on the matter at this time.

Ironically, despite her ideology and the history of the Heroes themselves, which often flirt with communism and always strongly condemn imperialism, she adopted both the nickname and the aesthetic of the greatest of the aces of ancient history, a soldier of the Imperial Germany - Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron. Her flightsuit is heavily stylised after World War 1 pilot uniforms, and, of course, the omnipresent colour red are the most obvious examples. (although her by-now infamous memory material scarf is, in fact, white and red, in honour of her father's homeland) She does not seem particularly self-aware about this, however.

Red's combat machine, named after an old hero from a distant war. Bleeding-edge military equipment that she had been familiar with and trained on ever since she was a child; it is basically an old familiar to her, more a friend and companion than merely a tool, with its AI drones, themselves highly sophisticated military machines built as miniature versions of Rudy, serving as both friends and pets to her. (as actual living friends rarely stay living for very long in this line of work)
