Functional Concept

Units have a set of functional spaces:

  • Weapons
  • Protection
  • Engineering
  • Computers
  • Misc

The number of spaces in each would depend on the base unit type, aptitudes, etc. Going over would cost extra. Different components may take up 1 or more spaces.

Equipment would be straightforward and represent what is mounted. For example:

  • Flak (size 1W)
  • Light Guns (size 1W)
  • Medium Guns (size 3W)
  • Heavy Guns (size 4W)
  • Armor (size 1P)
  • Deflectors (size 1P)
  • Barriers (size 1P)
  • Engines (varies by ship size, E)
  • Enhanced FC (size 1C)
  • Big Radar (size 3C)
  • Hangars (size 3M)

This gives scope for designs with more flair that just '+1 guns +1 armor' while (hopefully) not overloading the design process.


Heritage Ships and Refits

Buggy Software: Nice bonuses, but random chance every turn that it'll bug out and invert the bonuses to penalties.
