She was a young fighter in the French Resistance, who’d been tortured by a German Nephandus (Nevaleinn) <IXJac> Merry (Amaryllis) de Sable – became Caldwell’s lover and eventually (scandal!) wife, and the woman who died to save him from Jodi Blake. <IXJac> Mari’s grandmother was raped by Caldwell as part of a magickal ritual, Mari is actually his granddaughter, and the reincarnated soul of Amaryllis de Sable. When Caldwell realized this he had a bit of a BSOD. Took it as a message from the Tellurian, and he’s been trying to atone ever since
