Population: Rank 1 (2; +1 Growth)
- The Union has a dozen systems as official members and given that many again protectorate status; however as they are all still young worlds the Union's overall population is low.
Transhumanism: Rank 2 (2)
- Transhumanism is an accepted fact with a number of standard template packages commonly chosen for future children. The Union does have a substantial population of Classics as well, though these tend to be of the older generations.
Infrastructure: Rank 2 (2; CR 40, size 10 max)
- Despite a high level of per-capita industrialization, the Union only has a single shipyard that can construct capital ships and roughly a half-dozen capable of building cruisers.
Growth Potential: Rank 5 (4 + 1)
- A huge wedge of poorly-colonized Verge and Rim space was transported to the Nexus, full of poorly-catalogued stars inhabited by feral drones, rogue posthumans and drifters. Thousands of stars of untapped potential.
Military Support: Rank 4 (4; 16x support)
- The Combined Militias concluded a war against the Core worlds only seven years ago and maintains a large fleet and logistics organization.
Space Fleet: Rank 3 (3; 490 fleet points)
- The Treaty of Sirius doesn't apply any more. Dozens of cruisers were pulled out of mothballs as the magnitude of the event was realized.
Diplomacy: Rank 4 (6)
- Being just one power block among many which in itself consists of numerous diverse worlds, each a nation unto themselves, the Verge has an unceasingly active diplomatic tradition.
Espionage: Rank 3 (4)
- (Counter)espionage and (counter)terrorism are vital in an age of blights, armed fanatics and superpower struggles.
General Advancement: Rank 0 (0)
- The Union isn't rolling with the space opera supertech. Despite being very good at what they do, they simply cannot compete on straight-line metrics such as shield dissipation rates, gigawatts per cubic meter or weberfoam yield strength.
Unique Technologies: Rank 3 (4 + 1)
- They do have a variety of exotic technologies though, such as armor-busting 'mega particle' coherent-matter weapons, various forms of tactical and strategic jump drives, FTL transition inhibitors and fission dampeners.
Emergent Technologies: Rank 3 (6)
- Molecular manufacturing was never quite the panacea that it was expected to be, but all manner of sophisticated emergent technologies make their presence known in the Verge. Autofacs, neural links, retrovirals and advanced expert systems, ho!
Magic: Rank 1 (1)
- A handful of quantum-attuned Alephs have been made and autodidactic neural programming is uncommon if known.
Fleet (490 points)
- 5x @10 Pallada Battleships (50)
- The Pallada class is the largest and most powerful warship in the combined ZOCU fleet. Armed with a large battery of mega particle cannons and a substantial combat frame complement, they are unfortunately rather unspectacular when put up against other Nexus battleships.
- 5x @8 Refitted MacArthur System Control Ships (40)
- An older, pre-Breakdown design, the MacArthur series of system control ships were produced in large numbers for various PACT member-states during the Expansion period. Capable of extremely long cruises they were deployed all through the Verge and Rim. A number were stuck in ZOCU systems during the Breakdown and were taken in as some of the fledging union's first capital ships. All have been extensively refitted to replace many of their half-century old systems. While rugged, they have relatively limited strike craft complements.
- 20x @7/2 Ionia Heavy Cruiser (70)
- The Ionia was ZOCU's first successful domestic cruiser design and the one that set the standard for all later designs, including the 8-vehicle, two-Flight mobile frame Element and the cellular hangar bay concept. Originally armed with a trio of heavy battleship-size railcannon turrets, successive models, upgrades and refits have resulted in a number of different loadouts. While not as strongly defended as their nearest Core world equivalents they were nonetheless surprisingly robust for what had been passed off as a carrier-converted merchantman. Unfortunately Ionias suffer from poor thrust-to-weight ratios (due in part to their thick but relatively inefficient armor) and consequently have poor acceleration.
- 50x @6/2 Concord Cruiser (150)
- A more modern cruiser design, the Concord has a greater emphasis on long-range cruising and sustainability in additional to superior performance under reaction drive while retaining the same complement as the Ionia. This made them superior choices for offense and operations along the long PACT Front during the war, but their lighter structure also made them more vulnerable to damage. While lacking the gun caliber of Ionias, Concords have superior weapon arcs with none of the problematic blind spots of their older siblings.
- 80x @5/4 Proton Escorts (100)
- The most common warship in the ZOCU fleet, the Proton series was mass-produced during the lead-up to the war. Carrying a single Flight of combat frames and armed with several pulse cannons they were tasked with escort, patrol, scouting and other miscellaneous missions.
- 20 points misc short-run/captured warships
- A number of nonstandard or experimental designs were built during the war and several enemy warships were captured. None were of capital tonnage, with the bulk being light cruiser or the equivalent.
- 4x @10 Orbital Forts (40)
- Several large orbital forts were built during the war, thickly armored in ferro-silicon slag and emplaced to protect orbital infrastructure.
- ]40x @1 Orbital Frames (10)
- Various high-performance orbital frames have been built during and after the war. The Mikaboshi and Masamune special forces units are the most common, but others exist.
- 20x @2 Mobile Armors (10)
- Mobile Armors were a ZOCU innovation during the war, packing high-performance generators and weapons into oversized non-aerodynamic frames. The most common is the Kuma long-range antiship striker, followed by the Xhosa fire-dominance armors.
All ships of cruiser and up are roughly 50/50 ship proper and mobile frame complement. This is why they are /2 instead of /4.
