Join Today!

The UN ARROWs(Autonomous Rapid Reaction Oversight Wardens) are looking for a few good individuals! See the galaxy like no others can, as a member of the elite international peacekeeping organization!

Looking to help the unfortunate? Join the International Sustenance and Safety Agency!
Want to see justice done? Join STELLARPOL!
Enjoy working with software? Join the International Emergent Intelligence Agency!
Are you a veteran or think you can handle some adventure? Join the ARROWs Guards and fight the enemies of peace!

Positions are also available in the Interstellar Atomic Energy Agency, the Interstellar Shipping Organization and UNOSAT.

ARROWs are active in over 50 incorporated star systems, providing critical services including first-response disaster relief for extrasolar colonies and protection against threats ranging from feral drones to pirates to terrorists. ARROWs also enforces national and international laws, being the successor to INTERPOL. Finally, ARROWs ensures compliance with interstellar treaties, having both the Interstellar Atomic Energy and International Emergent Intelligence agencies under its aegis.

Serving in a national military is no barrier to ARROW service; transfer contracts are available with the militaries of all UN members and at any given time, 10-15% of the ARROWs Guards are actively serving members of national militaries. They share their training and in return, get valuable service time (often twice or more active service hours per deployment cycle).

All applicants are considered on their own merits. ARROWs does not discriminate on the basis of nationality, race, gender, education, or genetics.

ARROWs. Fight the good fight.

About ARROWs

As the wormholes faded and Mankind pushed the frontiers back with jumpships and catapult chains, more and more small colonies were founded or brought into the network of interstellar communication and trade. Typically established by private groups, they had little or no connection beyond culture with the nation-states of Earth. Founded under extra-national charters or surprisingly often entirely outside any legal framework, they fell under the purview of the International Colonization Agency, the UN body that tracked, regulated and managed colonization efforts.

The debate over the establishment of an autonomous UN military force was a long one. While there was strong resistance to such an organization in the ‘40s, the increasing number of Expanse colonies falling under UN jurisdiction coupled with the frequency of both feral drone attacks on shipping and criminal/terrorist activity in the colonies themselves began to sway opinion about the merits of such a body. National military forces were capable of projecting significant power in defense of worlds and stations when feral drones and other threats made an appearance; however they tended to be tied to friendly territory, both from a logistical and political perspective. A dedicated force to protect those under the UN banner as well as to supplement national forces in more peaceful missions was necessary.

Established on October 12th, 2154, the UN’s Autonomous Rapid Reaction Oversight Wardens – ARROWs – was and remains a semi-autonomous body reporting to the UN Security Council. Originally it consisted of a core of volunteers from many UN member militaries and a body of young recruits. Equipped with limited weaponry as per their founding charter, these men and women rapidly took up the daunting task of policing and protecting the far-flung worlds of man. ARROWs was soon reorganized to include various enforcement and monitoring agencies and its rolls rapidly expanded to include those with diverse backgrounds including justice, hard and soft sciences, sociology, xeno- and technoarcheology and practical medicine.

ARROWs Today

In the late 22nd century, ARROWs has become the largest individual agency of the United Nations with its own host of sub-agencies; funding comes from the UN operating budget, transit levies on UN-owned infrastructure and ‘special dispensations’ from a number of independent colonies. The latter case has resulted from the fact that ARROWs have become the ‘’de jure’’ as well as the ‘’de facto’’ military and orbital guard for a number of worlds.

While the ‘Blue Hats’ are most iconic of ARROW, the modern-day organization covers a broad spectrum of judicial, regulatory and enforcement functions ranging from cross-border policing to regulated and appropriate civilian use of atomic explosives to containment of potentially rampant cybernetic life. Additionally, it works closely with other UN agencies to deal with disaster relief, food and technical aid and similarly important tasks.

Sounds pretty, doesn’t it? They don’t tell you how in the pocket of corporate and national interests ARROWs is, like the time they gassed the striking miners on Ninblund so InterMetals made its monthly quota. --BreakdownRedux 01:12, 10 August 2193 (XST)

The ARROWs Fleet

While modern advances have made it easier than ever to cross the Expanse, ARROWs still has a vast amount of space to cover. Bases are few and far between and ships typically need to go long periods without resupply. Models with high endurance, an effective sensor outfit and the ability to operate multiple small craft are preferred. Until the 2180s, the ARROWs fleet consisted almost exclusively of ex-national ships, many of which were less than suitable for such extended operations. Nonetheless, they served proudly to be eventually replaced by more contemporary designs in primary service.

Compared to a typical national military that is either at war or training for war, the ARROWs fleet is decentralized and deployed every day. It draws strongly from historical experience of similar entities, most notably the United States Coast Guard. While ARROWs has warships and operates in a military fashion, it is not considered a conventional military due to both its broad law-enforcement and regulatory role and its mandated limits on armament. Its ships are sufficiently well-armed to deter and if necessary eliminate pirates but are insufficient to pose a threat to any major national combatant.

Until recently all ARROWs vessels that are armed, exceed 50 meters across their largest dimension and not solely designed for surface-to-orbit cargo lift (eg, HLVs) were designated as ‘cutters’, though the latest model of combat craft has been designated both a Deepspace Security Cutter and a High Endurance Cruiser. Featuring contemporary systems and design from bow to stern, they apply the lessons learned during the turmoil of the 2180s.

ARROWs got schooled in the fights in the ‘80s against the Zocs, and now they’ve started putting some real warships into space. Rumor says they’ve got the ability to deploy as much firepower as a conventional cruiser by replacing all their auxiliary craft with mecha or fighters. --KingYamato 25:57, 26 January 2194 (XST)

A friend of mine ran into an ARROWs test team down in some uninhabited red dwarf system off the Corporate Sector. Said they pulled some crazy maneuvers. Totally not the low-grade stuff they show to the public. I haven’t seen him in over a month . . . --Anonymous 14:38, 7 October 2195 (XST)
