Appearance

Margot is a small and unassuming girl with short black hair and subtle heterochromia, with one eye in light brown and the other with a desaturated, unnatural appearance. This may be because of damages done to it that she was forced to repair using her powers, leading to the anomalous color. She wears a heavy bomber jacket made almost entirely out of high-tensile carbon fiber, black leggings and flexible shoes made for freerunning. She carries a satchel full of artificial diamond that she uses for emergencies, and several pouches containing other allotropes of the material.

Background

Margot comes from an dystopian world of strict hierarchy between the wealthy and poor, with the poor further divided into a series of castes to prevent rebellion. The world has born the brunt of ecological cataclysms brought on by weapons of mass destruction, and beyond the few remaining arcology city-states on the planet much of the planet is swampy wasteland, untamed and uncontrolled by humans. Automation of industry and police means that the elite have very little need of the lower classes, and can effectively remove any undesirable person without meaningful dissent or resistance.
As a consequence of the nuclear devastation on the surface, some humans have become praxis, capable of directly manipulating base matter and fundamental forces by will alone. Praxis are hunted by the city-states, feared because their powers are disruptive to the social order if left unchecked and coveted for the strength they could lend them. Margot was a simple undergraduate engineering student when her powers manifested, forcing her to go into hiding and join an anti-government group headed by several powerful praxis.
As always, things seem to get worse. Attempting to avenge a friend during a pitched battle over Neo-Seoul, she found herself facing off against the powerful space-warping government praxis known as the Augur, in a fight that she couldn't win. Desperate, she flung herself at him in a suicide attack and stripped the carbon out of his body, only for him to similarly act out of desperation and cast her into a wormhole.
She survived, somehow slipping through space and time instead of being disintegrated violently...
