Starmetal Long Powerbow “Run From Your Fate” – this bow was delivered to Forgotten Calm shortly after he Exalted, delivered to his residence by a minor god. The package had been kept in his name (though they had not known it until the time came for delivery), possibly by his prior incarnation. The name suggests that the bow was created for a Chosen of Endings (at least that’s the common belief), though little is really known about the weapon beyond that.

General Info

Appearance: Forgotten Calm is a tall, lean man, apparently in his early thirties. He sports a long, slightly disheveled blue beard that trails down onto his chest, usually unbraided, in contrast to his short, sword-cut hair.

Bio: Forgotten Calm began his life on the Coral Archipelago, as the child of a tavern owner in a busy pirate port. His name and the name of the tavern have long since been forgotten (perhaps due to his own machinations), but at the time it was quite the popular place for rough-and-tumble seamen to go for a drink and a fight. His father and mother urged him to work at the tavern, doing odd jobs for them. The young boy discovered he had a talent for brewing ale and beer; his creations were quite the hit, and the tavern quickly gained more business. More loud, violent and lecherous business. The boy’s innate charisma always spared him from undue violence towards himself or his family, and though his efforts, the place maintained order (or what passes for it in a Western alehouse).

In fact, his beers, wines, and other such drinks had a peculiar habit to spread fame as well as good cheer, rumour washing over the entire island in a curious amount of time. Perhaps this was how he attracted the attention of Untouched Wave, a pirate of some renown, who demanded his services aboard his vessel. Exposure to the pirate lifestyle influence the boy’s decision, and he took his leave to join the crew. It was his first ship, though it didn’t last long. The boy wound up serving in several ships over his time, through sheer attrition, between bouts of working on the mainland in a small brewery. He often served as an impromptu recruiter for other pirates, taking ‘matchmaking’ jobs to fill out eager captains’ crews. The boy became quite popular amongst the captains as ‘that young man who knows everybody’, always quick with a mug of ale and with a knowing smile.

Then, one day, he wasn’t there anymore. Nobody knew what happened to the boy, now an adult; one day, he just wasn’t about. His parents disappeared soon after, leaving the island to retire on their vast savings in a safer place. The tavern itself was sold, and eventually no one could remember which of the dingy pubs it was. Still, many remembered ‘the Ale Boy’, and the most popular local brew was thought to be based on his divinely-touched drink.

The boy himself sometimes thinks wistfully of his childhood, the tavern and the brewhouse that provided a respite for so many sailors. His name, Forgotten Calm, reflects this period in his life, which was also a tranquil period for him, at least compared to the unreal life of Yu-shan.

As a Chosen of Venus, Forgotten Calm is dedicated to the spread of joy and pleasure. His education on the Usurpation has not rubbed him the right way, and he sometimes doesn’t quite understand why people with easy access to present and past destinies couldn’t have mitigated some of glaring problems that resulted from it. Despite his Western Heritage, he has been assigned to the Convention of Wood, where he was heavily exposed to the Gold Faction and its teachings. He counts himself a member of the organization, preferring to befriend the returning Solars and turn them into friendly patrons rather than annoying party-crashers.

Forgotten Calm has taken a keen interest in mortal organizations and their role in promoting good social order and health – in particular, the Guild, which is often becomes involved with on missions. He still prefers to be by the sea if he can help it, and prefers personalities with some sailing experience. When he is in Heaven, he often spends his time in his Manse-home, a towering structure with aqueduct-like pipes leading from giant stills and grape-stomping rooms, where he experiments with the finer nuances of Celestial brewing. That is, when he’s not out drinking himself – he always enjoys a good ale, preferring this over opiates or other drugs as a ‘cleaner’ buzz. His love of drink sometimes unsettles more serious gods and Sidereals, including his Sifu, Red Jarquez, who wonders how many times his pupil comes in drunk. Still, despite his profession, Forgotten Calm has avoided embarrassing himself or others for the most part, owing to his understanding of alcohol and its effects. Jarquez will occasionally have a drink with him, after their training, which Calm never skips or dawdles on. The Sifu has never told anyone that Calm is responsible for his abandoning abstinence again, which probably amuses Nara-O on boring nights.

A friendly, happy-go-lucky guy, Calm tends to take a fast-and-loose approach to fate-weaving. He often thinks of results rather than consequences, unless the latter is a serious detriment to future joy. He’s not stupid, and doesn’t just start riotous parties wherever he goes – after all, those require substantial infrastructures of alcohol, lodgings, auxiliary entertainments, bribes for local law officials, and abundance of cheap, easily-replaceable property.

Forgotten Calm is trained in the bow from his piracy days, where he would often fire shots from the ship’s deck. He has bolstered this minor skill with the discovery of his legacy – the Starmetal powerbow, “Run from Us”. He has also begun training in the Celestial Monkey martial arts style, feeling it suits him.
