It is the year 1000 of the Galactic Era. Three hundred and twenty years have passed since the glories and wonders of the Solarian Consensus vanished into the darkness without so much as a final whisper. Even in the absence of the Consensus, life has gone on out on the disparate worlds of the fringe. New trade routes have begun to replace the lost Gate Network, new nations have risen up from once backwater and trivial colonies, and slowly but surely new technologies begin to approach what was lost all those years ago.

Known space grows ever smaller, and horizons both new and old beckon to a new generation of explorers and conquistadors. The treasures of unspoiled worlds and even the lost Consensus wait at the ends of uncharted hyperspace routes and there are no shortage of would be claimants. The opening of the Third Space Era is at hand.
