'The Chorus has it wrong. It's not about subsuming the self to reach Oneness, it's that we've got to find a road together. Each of us has a spark of divinity in us, a primordial fire that must be nurtured to cleanse our bodies of impurities and allow our souls to reach sublime heights. If we fan that fire, there's nothing we cannot overcome.'

History

Born to a Tibetan refugee and a local chorister, Azkander grew up indoctrinated by the faith- but it was his mother's beliefs that drew his attention far more than his father's. A refugee from ascension war torn Tibet, his mother's journey and eventual triumph over her oppressors stoked a fire within young Azkander, who came to believe more in eastern approaches to faith than his father's domineering western one- heavy with Catholicism. In time, he left home to make his own way- gathering adherents to the path he believed only he could see- and in time became a prominent figure among his self-started cult.

The Cult of the Phoenix is a low key group- equal parts neighborhood watch and sewing circle who buys into Azkander's big beliefs and bigger ambitions. Seeing the literal magic of faith certainly helps, and with their help Azkander has gained the resources to better seek his vision.

Paradigm

Azkander believes that each individual soul holds a spark of divinity, a piece of divine starstuff that can be nurtured by learning to shed the illusions of the physical world and connect on a primal level with primordial forces- a paradigm which has shades of Chorister Oneness and Hermetic Godform ideology but has transcended those to become something wholly new. This 'true communication' seeks the evocation of emotions to tear through the shells of stasis that continue to encroach upon the world. From a mechanical standpoint, this apes high ritual- Azkandar dresses up in a particular manner, effects a particular style of behaviour to gather 'favour' and 'faith', and through a primal- and oft tantric joining- he harnesses that power into something usable.
