History:
Ariana was born to a pair of relatively average mages in Western Virgina, USA. While neither of her parents were all that powerful, they were skilled enough to realize that Ariana was going to be powerful and to get her the teachers and lessons that she needed.
Unfortunately her parents were killed when she was just ten years, in of all things a traffic accident. Her father hit a patch of black ice after a light winter storm and wrapped his car around a tree, killing both of Ariana's parents immediately. Ariana would have been killed as well if they had not left her at home with a babysitter in order to have some time alone with each other.
The Mage Association saw no real reason to step in beyond making sure that she completed her training as a mage, as she wasn't a member of a major clan or anything, and Ariana was placed in the care of the state foster system. But due to her skill in magic and high grades in regular school, the Association made arrangements for her to receive a full scholarship to the Jacqulyn Kennedy Academy for Girls when she was ready to enter high school.
But during the summer between middle school and high school she was caught in the middle of a battle between a rogue mage and the Church's burial agency while walking home from her magic lessons. The mage attempted to use her as a human shield, not realizing she was a mage herself. Ariana defended herself and the Burial Agency killed him, but with his last breaths he hit her with a powerful curse that should have killed her.
The Burial Agency operative however took her to an expert in spiritual surgery who saved her life by converting the curse to what it is today, though he could not entirely remove it. But while what he did saved his life then, the curse is still destined to cut years off of her life.
She has joined the Grail War as the Grail is one of the few artifacts that could remove her curse.

Fast Casting – Several of her teachers have noted that Ariana has a knack for quickly casting spells, far faster then most mages can pull off.
Flaws:
Sick Girl – Ariana suffers under a very powerful curse of illness. The curse in itself is not fatal, though it attacks her body's systems. However her immune system is weaker then it should be and she frequently gets sick, and could die from those diseases if she caught the right one. She doesn't have the physical stamina she should have, and thanks to the curse she appears waif like and younger then she really is. At first glance most people would assume her to be fourteen or fifteen, not seventeen. If Ariana pushes herself to far she usually suffers an attack; which consists of a massive wave of weakness, coughing up blood, and sometimes actually passing out. These attacks can require medical attention if she doesn't stop and rest after having one.
