Characters

Flint Ironstag

Legendary pirate from the Gnacha sector.

He was born in Sirta, a ecumenopolis on the world of the same name. While growing up he was drawn towards organized crime, and was a messanger for quite some time for a youth gang. After the age of twelve, he was elevated to the rank of enforcer, and took part in several murders. During this time, he located the spaceport that most dealt with visiting pirates and got a position on a crew. After working his way up the ranks by age 18, he found himself as the 'nightshift gunnery officer.' After a attack went sour, he took over as gunnery officer and managed to find a way to get his ship free of a trap laid for it. His captain promoted him to gunnary officer for the effort. (The previous officer died from his wounds.) Three years later he was first officer and after his captain died he took command. Making sure enough loot was found to keep his crew contempt, he over time earned their trust after pulling off some very profitable heists. At the age of 31 he was well regarded by most of the pirate fleet. To rid themselves of his presence, he was convinced to take several dozen ships to another 'sector' neighboring the one he would leave and begin operations there with provisions by local pirates to allow him to commit acts of piracy on local nations. However, he quickly gained the respect of other local fleet captains and managed to kill the leadership of one band, the Jade Fleet. After solidifying his rule, he continued to commit acts of piracy. It was during the five years after his takeover of the Jade Fleet that he decided to settle down. After searching for a companion who he found enticing, he met his wife at a council of captains (a legislating body for the Jade Fleet.) After a drinking game at the local bar, both went off and enjoyed each other. They soon were a couple and wed, a baby being born some days after the wedding. She was named [Protagonist]. Three years later Flint went on a mission and had to remain outside his hsip for a small amoount of time. The radiation made him infertile, although he did save his ship and crew.

began his history humbily, but gained trust and rank over time. When he was sent to the Simar sector with a small fleet of his own, he was in contention for dominance of the fleet he was part of. Partly sent away to prevent his own ascension into power back home, he brought his fleet into dominance of the sector it was sent to. Using treaties, he allied with one of the local powers to

Gaf the entire pirate fleet he served in due to his unwaveringly heroic actions and refusal to leave crew behind.

History

He started young, joining up with a youth gang when he was eight. Said gang controlled the area around the spaceport in the hive city. He quickly took the chance to move on towards serving on a piratical ship when the captain of the ship was looking for crew in the area, working from scully rat to nightshift gunnery over three years. After a quick stint where he took initive during a suprise raid, he was promoted to day shift when that weapons officer was disabled in a boarding action. Said sailor retired with his share of the ship's bounty back at the city Flint came from.

Three years later, he was promoted again to first mate after the other officers were sf

Protagonist's History

...

Preflight History

In -34 (as measured against the colony ship's departure,) the protagonist wrote a memoir, but called it fiction to hide it's true nature. Despite this, her lover of several years already knew the truth, but did not wish to bring undue attention to her or the protagonist. Despite this, she did reveal the truth to a fellow transhuman she knew on the planet's internet. When her friend suggested a colony ship much like one written about in the memoir (of the sublight variety) in a section of the pirate's memoirs detailing a attack of a sublight ship to get resources needed by her own ship. (And dealing with various technological items.)

Several others were brought in on the secret because the protagonist's lover requested them to be brought in on it. Both her lover, and her associates began speculation almost immediately about forming a colony away from the hatred and the lies of the world they lived on. Despite this, the Protagonist was still skeptical until her lover was attacked by a random Heteronormaitive Crusader who kidnaps her.

The Crusader sends the Protagonist a video of him violating her lover, calling her specifically various names while claiming repeatedly that he is trying to 'restore' her normalative traits. She watches the scene in a dark room, not wanting others to see the video. The Protagonist finds herself suffering a Heroic BSOD when watching these. While she does not listen to those awful video's, she begins to enter a Tranquil Fury, and breaks her vow not to revisit her ship. Combat Aesthetic is recognized and she takes great pleasure in revisiting old rituals of preperation for combat. She has her portable rocket launcher, her combat rifle, as well as a very wicked dagger she has instead of a knife. During this preparation, she finds herself in a Tranquil Fury, and hunts down the Crusader. After quietly dealing with him, she takes her lover back home and realizes that leaving her adopted homeworld is perhaps the best option available. She spends several weeks alone in her home while taking care of her wife. She finally comes out and tells her friends (whop were holding a overnight virgil) that she has made a decision. [Idea: I get the image of her holding A cellphone up and texting that she has made a decision to one of her friends. -haha]

After making her decision she leaves her adopted world and travels to a neighboring system using some loot she had hidden in the outsystem when she had been on the journey to her adopted homeworld.

While in the neighboring system she purchased a high radiation (resistant) armored colonization ship, and was told the delivery time would be two years. She also picks up several technological items without equal on her adopted homeworld and plans to use them to acquire wealth locally so she can set up a program to train the colonists she is sending to another world.

While this is happening, a major backer of the local (Compared to the protagonist's location) Socially Regressive party learns of her website and it's effect on teaching those who are 'abnormal' about their condition. He makes her a political target and demands that parents have the say in education using social regressive politicans. A family first orginzation forms, but the secret backhttp://www.hostmonster.com/er has no idea about the timetable for actual leaving. (It's left open.)

When the story hits the press that said crsader was found dead, the video is claimed to be a fake, and the burnmarks were like nothing found on the planet.. rumors start when a new computing device (new chip type) is 'invented' by a firm that has connections to the Protagonist (who was accused for the murder. A select few go underground to claim to hide with the protagonist (who is never charged) but occasional apperances by the woman do elicit very strong reactions, good or bad. During a apperance at the six month mark, the Protagonist is attacked again by a mob of the heteronormalative crusaders who form the core of the Conservative party.

History of the colony

A Period

Before arrival, during the planning for the mission, it was decided that a fascist government was required, but one with full control of the means of production (although it would have to allow for individual's ownership of the factories should corporations be desired after the colony was out of the initial 'danger zone', for the second stage of the colony.) New laws were derived because thge old laws from the origin world were considered flawed. These favored government control of the means of production, although they did allow for somem minor private factories to exist. The system they fled to was known as a hellish place with little of the way of aids to a colony's survival. They went there anyways, partly to avoid pirates who would be busy with lesser targets. Partly to discourage followers from following them. The followers came later. After arrival, the colonists in a bid to protect themselves ordered the factories on the ships to start building the parts for small missle boats. A strong doctrine of wolfpack hunting formed as 'teams' of ships competed within the asteroids fields of their new home system. Of course, the fear that they were followed, specifically for the first generation colonists, was justification for the massive military expenditures. Future colonial citizens were raised with a heavy dose of fear at the prospects of normativeness.

B Period

When they nearly felt safe enough to build a few stations away from their more traveled routes, they discovered a ship heading into the system, using STL engines and massive fusion torches to slow down as it entered the system from the same direction as they had. Cautiously they brought their military together to greet the intruders, and discovered it was a ship ill prepared for the hellish conditions in the system. Quickly teams were gathered together to help the crew of this ship. Heading out to meet the ship, they boarded it and discovered to their horror it was heteronormalitives from the system they fled, who planned on entering the system awake and destroying their colony. Quickly they counted their blessings that the crew of this ship was not awake, and deactivated the automatic systems to awaken the crew. The Protagonist saw this as a affront and prepared a plan that the now fascist colonists could stomach, that is the keeping the people on the colony ship frozen (although she did provide two astroids to act as a radiation shield around the vessel's keel, protecting the frozen crew from the stellar radiation of the system. Several colonists requested these people be awoken so they could assist in work to set up the main colony. More pragmatic colonists in the biotech labs requested some of the regular humans so they could further the project to modify the separatists genetic project faster.

Both got bodies for usage, and it was easy enough to sell this plan to the colonist after revealing the intentions of the crew. The expenditure of saving the other ship was seen as needing to be paid back by most, and few saw them so few complained at first when they were foced into mining ships as forced labor to recover materials used to pay their debts.

C Period

As the slaves began to make the system livable via the hard labors of mining the outer system, they began to improve the view of the government by many citizens. Over a few decades, the people became more enamored with their new livilyhoods and began to self purify their hard line opinions that led to supporting the government in more and more monstrous actions. This was helped in no small part by social management systems installed to protect the powers that controlled the colony and the nascant Royal Family. More scientific victories in teh quest to perfect the genetic modifications that would become the halmark of the genetically superior of the system. A secondary thought was provided for making sure the slaves were modified so they could resist enormous amounts of radiation, so that the systems provided to the slaves (machines and ships) could be simplified.

Int - Characters from the colony station and it's system are all Geniuses. If not specifically mliltary characters, they have a 80% chance of looking like G:tT characters. (Infact they may be both!) They also have one of the more sympathetic villain tropes applied. (If they are nto sympatnetic then.. they die in whatever story they are in. Just keep in mind the colony has only 30 million yet, and is rather 'small'.)

Soc - Society is strongly structured around communal space and communal ritual. When meeting a personal relation of any emotional merit, the customs are 'restrained', yet it is easy to 'change gears' and switching to personal interaction.

To note, there is no 'norms' for personal interaction other than you should not have many people (and even then only those you trust) there while interacting in a relationship.

(to be fluffed later...)

Apperance 5

The Enlightened colonists modified themselves to be beautiful despite the radiation that floods the system, or perhaps because of it. This allows them to belive they are superior, and fits nicely in with their social theories

Untermensch

After five years of setting up a colony (the colonists were still not done) another ship approached their system. (Known because of the engine flare of the slowing ship.) Before they left, the origin world had played host to a very... negative group of people who fulfilled the trope of heteronormalative crusaders. These counter revolutionaries and baseline supremacists damanded to various degrees that all who were not 'baseline' (normal human as seen locally - a great divergance from H. S. Sapiens in reality.)

These people made a plan to follow the colonists and awaken before entering the system and 'alpha strike' the colony in it's formative stages. This did not work due to the 'alarm' meant to awaken the crew being set to awaken them ten years after entering the system. Taking advantage of this, the fascists laughed at the broken alarm when they finally boarded the craft after it had arrived in the system, and with the hatred for the heteronormals that the first generation of colonists had (those who had been frozen for the journey), mixed with a proto-fascist movement meant to control production until survival was assured, and they selectively woke up the baselines using them as slaves in protective gear while various activities were performed in the Ubermensch's own formative station. Their existence, and various militaristic and crusader literature on the craft cemented the desire to enslave the baselines and have them do the most dangerous work.

In the 'Present', 381 AC, the slaves are baseline humans with control collars which also monitor everything the people do and say but this is not acted upon until a excuse is given via other more noticeable means. They were allowed to build a asteroid colony for themselves to live in and their efforts in the various 'roids of the system have given them radiation resistance to a insane degree. Adults are taken from this colony for long periods and worked in the roids mining various materials for the Ubermensch. Some roids are taken back to be stripmined by teenagers to train them for later astroid mining in life, as well as letting them remain with some schooling during the mornings. Popular for smaller roids is mining gems and jewels.

When alone, they mostly are quiet, and sedimentary. (The collars inject personalized hormone suppressive treatments tailored to the amount of natural hormones in each person.) They cannot breed, with slaves who are thusly suppressed being the ones to be forced to work. In some deep tunnels, non-supressed baselines live, without needing to be taken as slaves. They live their lives there, and can raid the slaves' compounds in the larger caverns in their asteroid colony.
