Bezerkers of the Ice Bear Lodge
It is said that in his youth King Rothgar once desired the services of the Bezerkers of the famed and ancient Ice Bear Lodge for one of his many wars; it is also said that the Grand Master of the Lodge refused the King entry three times saying "We do not know you." At this the King's companions urged him to strike down the offender, a bezerker advanced in age and wisdom such that his skin was as dark as the mountain and his eyes that of the great eagles. But Rothgar said "Why would I strike at such men? These are the heroes of the land. Were they bend knee without knowing my worth I would not have them." And Rothgar offered to fight any of the lodge to prove his worth as their King. And the Grand Master consented. Ten bouts between the finest members of the lodge saw Rothgar defeat all his opponents. The Grand Master watched silently and without comment. And the King's companions cried "The King has won!" And the King replied as the Grand Master stepped into the circle. "This was not about victory or defeat!" And he was felled by the Grand Master using some of the secret lore of the Lodge. The King's companions moved to strike the man down in wrath, but the King stood and bid them cease. "It is no shame to be knocked down by the wise and skilled; you can learn as much from a good blow to the head as giving such a blow." At that the Grand Master smiled and said "Rothgar, Hero of Glasself-Dorlyn, we would have not served you were you vain and but a petty warrior. You have shown wisdom and the true warriors spirit. We know you as a man and as a warrior. We have heard of your deeds but did not believe them. We know we were wrong; We will gladly serve you as brother warriors and as your sworn men."
