The door is black, or at least it once was, long ago. Years of graffiti have swallowed the vast majority of it's original colour, slogans of gangs long abandoned emblazoned on top of each other. In the middle of the door is a black speck, rigorously cleaned, looking for all the world like a peephole. Down at the entrance of the alley, three stories above the ground, is another camera, this one hidden by the shadow of the gutter above. Beside the door is small steel plate, next to the handle. And, emblazoned above the door in bold kanji, is the word "Clinic".

Stepping inside the door reveals a small waiting room, the ceiling and walls smoke stained, a eight mismatched chairs jostling for room with a table hosting a coffee-machine and a pile of various consent papers, technical manuals, and dog-eared copies of Ultra Jump. Two doors lead from this room, both with odd looking pads next to the doors. A persistent hum, just at the edge of hearing, can be heard from in here, but it soon melds into the background. The floor is linoleum, bleached white and kept scrupulously clean but for the ash stains surrounding the only bin, which is more often than not full of cigarette butts.

Welcome to one of the premier backstreet doctors of Tokyo.

Welcome to the Rouge's Clinic.

History

Built in the sixties, what would later become the Rogue's Clinic was once a VA funded micro-construct, built as part of a series of test initiatives to prove the concept. Initially designed to hold the gear required for half a dozen or so enlightened field operatives, it would be abandoned when the VA defected, as it was too well known internally.

Decades later, R3-JoIN suggested the location as somewhere for Kotoba to get back on her feet, the Technocratic surveillance of the place likely having lapsed. While the place hadn't been broken in, due to the surviving security systems, time had taken its toll in other ways.

It would take almost three months for Kotoba to finish clearing up the place: installing her 'appropriated' kit, updating what she could, cannibalising more of what she couldn't, and throwing everything she didn't understand or could hope to use either into the basement or just onto the street.
