The inhospitable but mineral rich world of Mecklenburg has provided the resources with which the foundations of the European Union's colonial dominions were built. Conveniently located near the beginning of the EU's outbound catapult line, Mecklenburg was ideally suited as a site for the development of heavy industry on the frontier and has over the years served as a source everything from industrial goods to starships for worlds along the EU Arm.
With the outbreak of war, Mecklenburg's factories and vast resources were quickly turned to the production of armaments for the European forces, and as the conflict dragged on its name became synonymous with EU oppression in the minds of rebels everywhere. Today, the domed cities and orbital shipyards of Mecklenburg have largely returned to more peaceful purposes but its role in the war has not been forgotten further out on in the expanse.
