The Konan Principality is a ZOCU power founded in the 2090's by a number of foundations owned by extraordinarily powerful and wealthy transgene dynasties. It was and continues to be well known for being a high technology center and for its longstanding practice of fighting tooth and nail to reduce undesireable immigration, giving it quite a low population compared to other states of its influence.

History

Established in the late 2090's by an alliance of corporate foundations ruled and owned by a class of newly established, enormously powerful and wealthy class of transgene dynasties. Though envisioned (and successful) as a long term economic venture, it was primarily a place of retreat against increasing anti-transgene backlash and restrictions being put in place on Earth. As an escape put in place by the richest of the rich primarily for themselves, control of the colony was heavily centralised, and remains tightly in the grip of a steadily growing but still relatively small number of prominent and extremely wealthy transgene families who heavily succeeded at business and finance during the decades of lax control on Earth. Though not openly nobility at first, they did fashion a political system wherein the paramount leader of the planet was selected in terms by "electors" on the Council of Guidance. Some time during the Breakdown, the constitution was quietly amended to official create the Konan Principality.

Thanks to its founders, Konan's economy is primarily high-tech and its population is overwhelmingly transgene to at least some degree. By the legal standards of the EU, the rate of "significant" genetic modification in the general population is about 91%. Above and beyond even most ZOCU members, Konan has become known for tis stringent immigration policies - a product of the ruling class's desire to keep the planet to themselves, balanced only by the necessity. With plenty of room still for settlement on the planet, the principality essentially operates a pyramid scheme, allowing generations of immigrants and making sure they earn enough to move their descendents up the ladder.

One of the problems ZOCU had was that they had a zillion variants of everything. No one was ultimately guiltier than Konan itself.

OMF-06KK2/KMF-065d Knightress

Despite being the primary originators of the OMF-06, it quickly became clear that while the Hoplite was a vital base system that could be produced easily on even undeveloped worlds, its basic, no frills design made it unsuited for Konan's low volume but highly sophisticated industrial infrastructure. Before the first suit had even entered production offworld, a number of Kojima-Saitama's rivals had already licensed up and were retooling the design into something more suited to their own world's capabilities. The eventual winner of that short but incredibly vicious contest was the Knightress, which became Konan's local variant of its own flagship mobile suit.

The Knightress shared over 80% parts commonality with the standard Hoplite Alpha but had uprated electronics, homegrown systems and a dizzying surfeit of gadgetry that made it a difficult but ultimately rewarding variant to pilot.
