Backstory

Several generations ago, an ambitious Mountain Folk Artisan named Relentless Malachite wanted influence over the surface world without aggravating the Great Geas, and decided to found a cult dedicated to Autochthon. Her close friend Devoted Amethyst took over the effort, being an actual devout worshiper of the Great Maker, and several of their children with mortals created the first families of the Beckoners of the Maker. This venture naturally met with some resistance from the Immaculate Order, including a number of executions.

The secret cult met with a surprise success when a talented apprentice to one of their agents took over the Steel Flame, a blacksmith shop in Chiaroscuro that had become rather popular. The apprentice was an easy convert, especially after the retired agent died at the hands of an immaculate monk. Now called Vigilant Obsidian, he brought the Steel Flame to the level doing business with the Tri-Khan and his court. His skill even brought him to the attention of Devoted Amethyst, who taught the young mortal to excel in craft for the Maker's glory.

Obsidian took that to heart, and crafted masterworks as praise to the Maker and worthy gods. The Court of Orderly Flame holds the red jade crown he forged for the return of Swan Dragon, and a number of Realm dignitaries would be stunned to realize there were heretical prayers crafted into the heart of their daiklaves. It was in attempting to rediscover the secret of creating Chiaroscuro glass for the Sun's glory that he took the Second Breath.
