Enhancement

Enhancement is the quantakinetic mode which infuses the Psion's body with quantum energies, allowing for physically impossible feats to be accomplished as a matter of fact as if the psion was an Aberrant herself. At higher levels, Enhancement allows the improvement of others in much the same way.

Enhancement ●: Basic Enhancement

At this level the QK may emulate any single Mega-Attribute, without Enhancements, gaining 1 dot of that Mega-Attribute per effect level. The maximum rating of the Mega-Attribute gained is equal to the QK's Enhancement rating or the QK's governing attribute, whichever is lower.

Enhancement ●●: Hardening

At this level, the Psion may infuse her body with quantum energies to protect herself, transforming skin and bone into impenetrable armor, adapting to the rigors of the environment at will. The Psion may purchase the "Adaptability" Enhancement or increase her soak via this aptitude.

Enhancement ●●●: Refinement

At this level, the Psion may gain Enhancements for his Mega-Attributes, gaining 1 free with a Mega-Attribute as normal, and buying further ones at the rate of 1 Enhancement per effect level. The Psion may also enhance more than one attribute at a time. All other limits are equivalent to Basic Enhancement.

Enhancement ●●●●: Enhance Others

The Psion may use all Enhancement modes he knows to enhance others. Use of this effect on Psions is at +2 difficulty, use of this effect on Novas is at -2 difficulty.

Enhancement ●●●●●: Apotheosis

The Psion may enhance all attributes in an entire category (Physical/Mental/Social) at 3 effect levels per +1 increase, or even enhance all her attributes at once with Mega-Attributes, at 5 effect levels per +1 increase. These enhancements are still capped by the normal attributes.

Transmutation

Transmutation is the Quantakinetic mode which emulates a Nova's control over physical structures. At lower levels, this control is limited, but at higher levels it can alter and warp even the fundamental forces of the universe. Although Transmutation is theoretically extremely energy-intensive, the use of quantum forces allows the Quantakinetic to "cheat", which is fortunate when you realize just how much energy they should be using but aren't. Most Transmutation modes use the "Mass" result of the Psi system for matter transmutation, divided by 10, as Transmutation is difficult to accomplish and even minor transformations can be drastically dangerous.

Transmutation ●: Catalyze/Inhibit

The Psion can speed up or slow down the rate of chemical reactions he is aware of. If used on a free-floating reaction, divide or multiply the reaction's speed by 5 for every point of effect level. If used on a reaction necessary for an object's function, use the damage or disability result effects. Although seemingly innocuous at this rating, this power can easily become lethal in the hands of a Psion skilled in chemistry or medicine, giving the Psion the ability to shut down brain function, alter or inhibit emotions via hormonal adjustment, and other creativity.

Transmutation ●●: Basic Transmutation

This level of Transmutation allows the Psion to transmute molecules, forcibly breaking molecular bonds. This does not allow for turning one element to another, but it would, for example, allow the Psion to take the glucose in a person's body and disassociate it into free-floating carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen. Note that this is done by quantum power, and therefore does not have the same consequences that it would have. For example, transmuting a mass amount of hydrogen and oxygen into water would not cause an explosion.

Transmutation ●●●: Nuclear Transmutation

The Psion can now convert one element from another. The Psion can transform lead into gold, or hydrogen into helium. A single utility effect level is often enough to transmute one element into a similar element without heavy precision (hydrogen into helium, lead into gold), while drastically increasing atomic mass or creating specific isotope mixes (transmuting oxygen into U-235, for example) may require significantly more. Again, these changes do not require external energy input, nor do they produce energy output. The Psion is an alchemist, not a walking nuclear weapon.

Transmutation ●●●●: Exotic Alchemy

The Psion is capable of creating and manipulating materials with arbitrary properties that do not exist in nature. The collapsed-matter penetrators of hypercore rounds, eufiber, Coalition building materials-these are all something the Psion is capable of manipulating. Creating or destroying these exotic materials is an extremely difficult task, and uses the Subjects result, with each Subject being 0.1 kg of exotic material.

Transmutation ●●●●●: Quantum Alchemy

The Psion has graduated from transmutation of matter into the transmutation of what underlies it. The Psion may raise or lower temporary (or permanent!) Taint levels, temporarily increase (or decrease!) Quantum, and other similar effects. Note that this is an extremely difficult mode-the minimum additional difficulty above and beyond normal psi use is at least +2 and often is higher.
