Overview

Economic, political and regional problems meant Iran was unable to move strongly into space until the 22nd century, and its eventual colony was situated quite far from Earth. Azadistan established itself as a wobbly but resilient dust-based democracy. It rarely made the news back on Earth save for a scandal about experiments on humans in the late 2130s, which started a cycle of almost annual government collapse which continues to this day now the War Coalition has been dismantled.

When the Magnate War came Azadistan aligned itself with the League, but also reopened those old files and quietly began determining how to meet Magnate superhuman force with force. The transport bottleneck of Breakdown warfare meant the highly-augmented troops proved effective, but it nevertheless remains a contentious policy both on and off world.

Politics

The following platforms do not necessarily closely describe policy once in office, as nepotism and corruption are major forces in Azadi politics. Nevertheless, they describe the general approaches and rhetoric of the parties to emerge from the dismantling of the War Coalition.

The National Front (Nationals) supports artificial population growth and state development of sophisticated industry and research infrastructure. Within the League, they remain committed to its existence but oppose any further 'loss of sovereignty'. They also support expansion of the military and a tough stance towards the Magnates. Their coalition is currently dominant.

The Azadi Development Party (Developers) supports free upgrading of children, building links with foreign powers, closer League integration, development of basic industry and a transition towards a more traditional economy. They also support expansion of the military and a tough stance towards the Magnates.

The Islamic Front (Islamists) supports greater religious influence on the State, missionary expeditions to fellow League worlds alongside closer ties, expansion of the military and a tough stance towards the Magnates. Their economic stances are not well defined, as their domestic campaigns are mostly focused on opposing corruption. Their recent loss of credibility on this issue has gutted support.

The Party for Unity and Governance (Unifiers) advocates an end to the democratic system in favour of a single-party meritocracy & technocracy. They have significant support among the young, the intelligentsia, and the military.
