The expedition that led to the formation of Altus was a one in a million shot, the last few ships through a collapsing singularity burning their drives into the unknown.

Swept up by the transgenics movement, a large group of baselines that were disatisfied with the governmental management of the growing singularity banded together to form the initial expedition. It was their thought that if they could not find solace here, at the birthplace of humanity, they were better to go find it out there, amongst the stars.
