Delten Mental Communication

The Myth of Delten Telepathy

Following the outbreak of the Magnate War, the League was faced with a troubling realization, they could not break the encryption codes used by the Magnate Fleet. To be more precise, it was not so much that they could not break the encryption codes as they could not actually discover the particular frequences that were being used to coordinate the fleet movements. This led to the general belief among the basic ranks that Delten fleets were telepathic and capable of coordination with a thought.
Between captured prisoners and recovered bodies, it was learned that this wasn't necessarily the case, but during the peace talks mediated by Solomon, there was a resurgence as the Delten delegation rarely spoke save to make an ending statement that sounded like it had been discussed many times over. In an effort to help heal the schism fueled by years of warfare, the Delten Technocracy decided to provide detailed schematics of their genetic modifications to make them seem more Human. Whether this worked or not is up to each individual to decide.

The Truth of Delten Mental Communication

Delten Mental Communication could be simply called telepathy; however, that is an inaccurate and incomplete understanding of what it is actually going on. Delten Mental Communication, henceforth refered to as DMC, is actually much more than telepathy. Not only does DMC allow contact between two individuals, it is easily scalable to allow for multiple interactions between multiple individuals. This can also be scaled even further using Central Nodes - to be discussed at a later point - to regulate the DMC network in such a way that an entire population connected to the node can communicate with each other. This scales up even further to communication between the Nodes with the Central Processing Hub - also to be discussed later.
This ability to communicate with technological devices is the biggest benefit of the DMC. This was also the original intention by the designer, Richard Delten. This communication has allowed for advancement in interface technology. For a person augmented with the DMC modification, accessing any technological device is as easy as slightly concentrating on the task, like lifting up an arm. Further more, the only limit to how fast information can be accessed is the constraints of how fast the user is able to interpret the data and inquire for more.
The first run of the DMC was a technological implant that allowed for simplistic interfacing with basic level technology. It also had a very rudimentary function for ad hoc networking between two individuals. In essence, it could only transmit data that ellicited an emotional response in the receiver. Through much concentration, it was possible to send emotional messages but anything beyond that was impossible.
That was until a breakthrough. Delten scientists made a breakthrough using genetic modification pioneered back on Earth before their forced exodus from the planet. The second generation DMC was a biological engineered piece of technology that allowed for seamless integration with the brain and nervous system. As time went by, the DMC advanced to the point where it is at today.

The Central Processing Hub

The Central Processing Hub, also known as the Hub, is the Posthuman Datacore that was found on the planet after planetfall. Much research went into accessing the secrets of the core, but much is still left buried in there somewhere behind many levels of encryption. What was discovered helped to propel the Technocracy to the forefront of technology out in the Solomonic Region. Within that technology was the knowledge that led to the first generation DMC as well as the theory that multiple people could be networked together like the internet of old. By the third generation of the DMC, another breakthrough was made which created the Hub as it is known today. The first Deltens to be networked together via an external networking controller were the science team working on the project. Shortly after, they invited in other scientists. Then it went onto friends and family. The fourth generation DMC therapy was released, and the entirity of the Delten Capitol, First Landing, was networked together.
Before the Hub, it was only reasonable to use the DMC between a few individuals within the same building at most. Communication beyond that would have a lot of interference and white noise from the other DMC transmissions. With the implementation of the Hub, each individual connects with the Hub, then they access which 'room' they wish to enter.
The best way to look at a 'room' is as a chat room on any intra- or internet. The Hub regulates all of the DMC connections and cleans up the signals so that there is no interference or white noise travelling to a user.
There is no known upper limit as to the number of connections and amount of data that the connection can process.

The Need for Expansion: The Nodes

It was not long after First Landing and completely been networked that the need was seen to expand the network to cover the planet. Due to the degradation of the DMC over long distances, it was seen that various intermediaries needed to be created. The Node was born. Located at the center of every major population center, and ringing First Landing, are Nodes. These Nodes act as a a smaller version of the Hub. Unlike the Hub though, they do have an upper limit on the number of connections they can process, so as a city grows larger, more Nodes needed to be added. These Nodes also facilitate the connection of one city to another through the use of strong transmitters.

The DMC and the Fleet

During the Magnate War, the benefit of the DMC came to light. It allowed for effortless coordination within a starship as well as added to the cohesion of the fleet as a whole due to the ease of communication. After the first engagements, dedicated command ships were created to act as a mobile Node and help increase the cohesion of the fleet and its assets.
